Desensitizing the Word of God: Weight loss sabotage?

Dear Our Lady of Weight Loss ~ While surfing the Beliefnet website I stumbled upon your blog some time back and have become a fan, a ‘regular.’ Your daily musings are a perfect blend of weight loss motivation, solid information and fun.
One of my favorite blog posts is “The Ultimate Weight Loss Answer.” This post focuses on some of the words we use that sabotage our attempts to lose weight.”
I would like to add to your post, if okay with you, with something that I recently wrote for CatholicNet. This piece is also about the power of words but more specifically about how God created the word. ~ Kathryn Cunningham, Catholicnet.com

Because – I Promise – I love you – I’m fat – I’m ugly – I can’t – I won’t – I hate you
by Kathryn M. Cunningham

In real life what’s the truth about our words?
Our society has become desensitized to the power of the word. We publically hear and speak things that ears should never be subjected to. We have disregarded the energy and effect that is contained in the word whether spoken or heard.
The first line of the bible tells us that the way that God created was with the word! The book of Hebrews tells that the word can be so powerful as to be able to divide soul from spirit. Jesus taught by the spoken, not written word. Saints and martyrs were killed and maimed for what they spoke not for what they thought.
The word needs to be handled with care and as much responsibility as a loaded weapon.
“So I tell you that for every unfounded word men utter they will answer on Judgment day, since it is by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words condemned.” (Mt. 12: 36-37).

Proverbs 23 has a lot to say about food, our addictions to it and to drink, and oh my… the list goes on and on with those of us with “issues”, doesn’t it? But as noted, the Word is what it’s all about–in our Bible, in our hearts ‘n in our heads. It’s always all about Jesus–yes, it is–and “Greater is He( Jesus) who is in me than he (satan) who is in the world.” There’s HOPE! ta dah! :)
