Christmas Diet Tip #4: Choosing A Food Plan

Here’s what you need to know and think about before choosing your food plan!
3,500 calories equals 1 pound
It’s scientific! No matter how you slice it, dice it, package it or name it, 3,500 calories cut is one pound lost. Whether you take in 500 calories fewer per day, or burn 500 calories more per day by exercises, by the end of the week, you will be one pound lighter.
Questions to ask yourself.
Do I like the foods on this food plan? If you do not, you will not stick with it!
How long can I live with this food plan? If you say for a week or even a month, you are doomed to fail. This is about making a healthy lifestyle change for LIFE!
Is this diet too restrictive? If your food plan is based on too few calories (1200 to 1500 is the suggested range), or if your food plan omits certain food groups, you are likely to binge and have uncontrollable cravings.

    I’m trying to follow a 1800 calorie low blood sugar diet that a nutritionist planned for me a few years back. Does anyone else crave sweets when they are sick? I still have this upper respiratory infection and are craving sweets? What does anybody else do to avoid sweets when they are sick?

    Obviously I haven’t been too good at avoiding sweets, but lately I’ve been drinking hot tea and it’s amazing at how fast my cravings leave. Sorry to hear you’re ill, but some beautiful flavored tea may be just the spot on for you. Feel better soon.

    Some foods I just have to kick out. Like Doritos. If I eat one, I will eat the whole bag, then I will eat yours, and then I will go get some and eat them until I lick the crumbs off the bottom.
    I really like the idea of planning the chocolate, and then savoring it over an hour. I went on a silent retreat years ago and have shared this story a million times. We could only talk during a designated time. The rest of the time we were completely quiet, including meals. This one particular meal, nothing fancy..just home made vegetable soup, home made bread, but it was the dessert that I recall again and again..it was a pear. Not just a pear, but the most beautiful, succulent pear I have ever tasted. All my senses enjoyed the pear that day. I have never tasted a pear that was that good ever since. All because it was quiet and I was focused. Why does it take a retreat to make that happen. Slowing down to enjoy the taste of everything is such a good idea.

    Thanks Cheri! I never gave tea a thought and I just happen to have different flavored one’s in my cupboard so the next time I get a craving its tea for me.

    Mimi, your description of eating Doritos was great! I totally understand only it’s chocolate goodies in my case. I have been trying to decide which one exactly I would like to take the time to savor and haven’t made up my mind yet, but I will.
