Christmas Diet Tip #10: One Simple Step to Eating Less

>Are you listening to what I’m saying? Are you reading what I’m writing? Are you picking up what I’m putting down?
Because I know I’ve said this before, covered this topic (as have other healthy living gurus), but there is a lot of evidence out there that suggests that y’all have NOT been listening.
So here goes, I’m going to say it again …
… and I am suggesting that you take this in fully and make it one of your hard and fast RULES!
No TV while EATING!
No READING while EATING!
No WORKING while EATING
!
When you eat, just eat. Sit at the table and be one with your food.
I PROMISE YOU that if you EAT and only EAT; pay attention to the food, taste it! Savor it! Experience it! … then you will eat much less. Naturally, without mental torture.
When you eat in front of the TV or while reading, you are in a ‘trance’ state. No one loves a good trance state better than I do (after all, I’m a hypnotist) … but you really do want to be fully awake and aware when you eat!
I permanently removed over 50 pounds 7 years ago, and this rule served me well.
Please join with me as we turn off the television and tune into our meal. At the table, while sitting. Yum! Delicious! WOW!
Amen!

    Just a little hint for today:Yesterday at the grocery store I bought a bag of mini chocolate rice cakes. They are really good and you can have 7 of them for 60 calories. You get the chocolate with the crunch of a potatoe chip. I’ve also eaten sugar free chocolate pudding when I’ve gotten a craving for chocolate and it seemed to satisfy me. I heard a saying once that said, “nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” I think it should be nothing tastes as good as healthy feels. Have a great day everyone.

    I jewish and don’t celebrate Christmas, but this is good advice for anyone.
    I do have a question related to Chanuka though, you are supposed to eat fried food during Chanukah. All traditional food for Chanukah is very fattening no matter where it comes from.

    Chanukah recipes!!! Hmmmmm …. let’s be sure to put some together. I’m looking for a Chanukah low-fat recipe maven????? Any volunteers???

    It’s a hard habit to break! I find myself sitting down and then somehow mysteriously there is a new catalog in front of me, or the TV is on or there’s something I have to do that comes up and, well, you know. Instead of being 80/20%, I might be more 20/80% success on this BUT I can keep what–trying? Ooops, no concentrating on increasing my baby steps and slowly moving towards the goal. And that’s OK!

    This is going to be a very hard habit for me to break. The house is STILL in disarray from this time last year, when we had all the floors redone. Stuff is still in boxes because we wanted to paint all the rooms before we put everything back. But then my husband was laid off and out of work for a year (last week was his first at his new “permanent” fulltime job), so we didn’t have the funds to buy paint. The computer and office stuff is on the kitchen table, so we’ve been eating all our meals in the living room in front of the TV. I know this has to change. It’s just going to be really hard.
