Our Lady of Weight Loss

Bible Passages that will Fuel You on Your Weight Loss Journey

Chewing the Fat … Our Lady of Weight Loss and Dave Chew the Fat … and passages from the Bible appear!
Dear Our Lady of Weight Loss ~ I gave up the beer and started working at a gym. I lost my beer belly and replaced it with a 6 pack of abs. I started going to church and shared my successes with my congregation.
Do you have any spiritual words of wisdom or something from the Bible on weight loss? Please share my story with others. Thanks, Greg, Fort Riley, Kansas
Dear Greg ~ Big time congratulations on your inner and outer transformation. Well done! Thank you for sharing your inspiration and asking about words of wisdom from the Bible. Whatever your beliefs, I do believe the following passages are ‘food for thought.’ And as we know, our actions are based on our thoughts.
Our Lady of Weight Loss offers these thought provoking quotes from the Bible that can help you to set your intention as you journey towards Sveltesville.
“Do you not yet understand, that whatsoever enters in at the mouth, goes into the belly, and is cast out into the sewer?” ~ Matthew 15:17

“Be not anxious for what you shall eat, or what you shall drink … or what you shall wear … Isn’t life more than food? … and the body more than clothing?” ~ Luke 12:22; 29
“Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” ~ Matthew 4:4
“The kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 14:17
“Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit … therefore, glorify God in your body.” ~ I Corinth 3:16; 6:19-20

    Janice:
Thanks for your thoughtful quotes today. Christians believe that the word of God is actually a living thing as pointed out by the bible itself. “The word of God is something alive and active….” (Heb.4: 12, Jerusalem Bible). This is also confirmed by the fact that in the very first line of the bible the agent that God sent to create the world was his word. God spoke creation, he did not form it with his hands! So the point is, that when we read scripture it is a much different and more powerful experience that reading anything else. It is a spiritual experience whether you know it or not! So thanks for this powerful reminder that weight loss is something that God wants for us as well as something we CAN do with his help and all the tools that he gives us. If anyone else is interested in exanding this discussion check out the thread that I started on the OLOWL Group titled “Fat and Faith” or check our my posts on my personal page.

Sorry……………that would be the KITT Club Group on Belief Net. This stuff still confuses me ! Here’s another quote that might lift you up on a day when it all seems to be coming undone. Don’t give up on the battle, St. Luke tells us” “Your endurance will win you your lives.” (21:19) Now that’s advice and a metaphor in more ways than one!

This is a reference for not overeating and for asking for the carryout. Ruth 2:14……..She ate all she wanted and had some left over. Then in 2:18 ……..Ruth also brought out and gave her (Naomi) what she had left over after she had eaten enough,

Pslam 91 says, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty. It is one of my favorites from the Bible but also Psalm 27 that says the lord The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear.

“Who can separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Romans 8:35,37…even food/weight can be conquered when we believe that we already have the victory.

Just goes to show that with God all things are possible. It is a difficult concept but once you get that then you will win the battle. He is most certainly in control of everything!!

I LOVE THIS. AS A SMALL THIN PERSON I OFTEN HUMOROUSLY SHARE WITH SOME FRIEND THAT I AM ON A DIET. THEY ALWAYS “FOR WHAT, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE.” ON TOMORROW FOLLOWING A TOPIC OF HUNGRAR AND NOT HAVING A REPAST FOLLOWING AT CHURCH, I WILL SHARE THIS WITH THE CONGREGATION.

I was at a church servie (youth revival) and in the sermom Titled Restoration, in the speakers opening statement, she talked about the soul , some time we go to the refrigirator and look in and we don’t see any thing and we come back again and so on..but in reality are we hungry or is are soul hungry, even after we eat a great meal and 30 minutes later we are still hungry.is are soul hungry or flesh. a lot of time we are submitting to the flesh and not meet the souls needs which is the word of God.

I have gotten great weight loss success at Weight Watchers, yet it is so easy to creep up again even after all I have learned.
I began to realize part of my eating habits where just that “habits”.
Habits that I was using like an addiction.
The scriptures that have helped me the most have been from Deut: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and the Exodus story about the “golden calf”.
I began to realize if I was using food as a reason to comfort myself, relieve stress, make me feel good I was forgetting just who my Source is, like my ancestors who erected a golden calf in the wilderness I was turning to something else instead of to G-d for my comfort, release and well being!
Now when my old habits re-surf I remember prayer changes everything including me – ( : Psalm 23 and Ps. 25.
My weight loss journey has brought me closer to my Father, my King and hit home the truth that the Ruler of the universe is always there for His own. I am very thankful!

I am also a Christian, but my husband has back alided and it is really difficult living with an abusive man who is physically violent, I was very slim, but have put on 40lbs in 20 yrs of marriage, I am 25lbs overweight and have recently gained 10lbs, due to an antidepressant drug.
When I go to the bakery to buy donuts for my children, I see the lemon tarts and just cant resist one, I am having one every week though I know I shouldnt, I dont otherwise over eat, but at times like to binge on chocolates and lemon and cheese cake which I just find irresistible.
I had a Godly friend who helped me loose weight, but I moved away to another location and now work late and am sitting most of the time, yet I do exercise almost everyday in the morning, but seem to face a real battle, the little weight that I loose, comes back to me, I weight 160lbs now and am just 5ft tall.
Please pray for me to have a consistent weight at 130lbs. I am supposed to be 135lbs.
Thank you in Jesus’ love, Maureen

my favorite. one is taken from mathew 4;4 it is so true man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of god.the best way to lose weight is to change our diet by eating more of gods word . it will digest better. and there is no natural weight gain. we need to gain a more spiritual weight gain. and that is through god;s word.

I have two reminders at my home of looking to God instead of food. A scripture on a stone that says “O taste and see that the Lord is good.” And also a little girl statue with a bunch of apple cores around her and on the bottom it says “Only Jesus fills me up inside.”

After reading from the Bible passages you posted above, I’m kinda not feeling that hungry anymore. Oh and Diet Solution Program kinda helped me out too

I have done a lot of research on dieting and loosing weight, and one thing that I know you have to have is self control. If you can trick your mind to stay away from the unhealthy stuff, I say it is a good thing, as long as you don’t deprive your body of the essential components it needs. Thank you for providing this article.

Turning to God instead of to food takes practice for those os us who have been overweight for some time, but it can be done with conscious effort and trust in Him.

Everyone needs that extra help when attempting to lose weight so I dont see the harm in people turning to God for inspiration.
People interpret the bible in many different ways.

Praying for you Maureen. I just read your post, and though its over 2 years old, it moved me and wanted to let you know that if you’re in an abusive situation, you need to tell someone and ask for help. If you have a pastor, share where you are and ask for their help. You’re husband is not loving you and by abusing you he’s disqualified himself from leading you for this season.

I hope Gods already done a work in his heart and things are different now, but in case you read this, know you’re loved as you are right now by the creator of the universe.

Interesting: Beware of too much weight loss also. Some people hurt their hearts and brains and bones by restricting too much. The scriptures can also be read in a way that protects us from self starvation.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 (New King James Version)

The race is not to the swift,
Nor the battle to the strong,
    Nor bread to the wise,
Nor riches to men of understanding,
    Nor favor to men of skill;
But time and chance happen to them all.
