The other morning I was munching my usual bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch (with added raisins) and listening to the All Songs Considered podcast from NPR. This week’s episode is Lesser-Known Love Songs, bringing together several music journalists and bloggers who share some of their favorite love songs. It’s a great episode with some interesting music.
Historically, I loathe Valentine’s Day unless I have a special someone upon whom to lavish affection. This year I loathe Valentine’s Day. You do the math.

Instead, I’ve put together a short mix-tape for my One City peoples. It’s exactly the kind of stuff I’d put on a mix-tape for, you know, a girl (except maybe the Betty Davis), so you should feel very, very special. You’re gorgeous. Enjoy.
1. Calexico and Iron & Wine – “History of Lovers”

2. (Via the All Songs Considered podcast) Betty Davis – “Anti Love Song”

3. Jeff Buckley – “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over”
[I couldn’t find a decent video of this one. Just go buy the track if you don’t already own it. Seriously.]
4. Zero 7 – “Destiny”

5. Glen Hansard (of the Frames) – “Lay Me Down” (Be sure to listen to the story at the beginning!)
