Atheists offer free porn to students who will turn in their Bibles

posted by

In a stunt designed to infuriate Christians, a student atheist group at the University of Texas at San Antionio is offering to give free pornography to any student who wants to turn in their Bible.

The organization, called the “Atheist Agenda,” calls its campaign “Smut for Smut,” according to reporter Marcia Segelstein.

Members sit at a table in the lobby of the school’s humanities building with a sign that reads, “Trade in Holy Texts 4 Porn,” ready to hand over a pornographic magazine in return for a Bible.

This isn’t the first time they’ve done this.

“They first did this back in December 2005,” reports Segelstein. “At that time, a group member explained to the school newspaper, the Independent, the reasons behind the controversial, in-your-face initiative:

“The idea is that religious texts are so appalling. They are so full of genocide, misogyny and ludicrous ideas that far overshadow any banal common-sense platitudes like loving thy neighbor, that you are better off having porn, which isn’t nearly as smutty.”

Kevin Prather is the Baptist Student Ministry Director at the university.

He shares why he thinks this is happening:

“It is a snapshot of the ‘New Atheism’ that is springing up in America – aggressive and confrontational.

“It outrages the sense of Christians.

“The Atheist Agenda does this solely for this purpose: To get under the skin of Christians and to provoke an angry response so they can point at screaming Christians and say to their peers: ‘See they are angry, self-righteous, judgmental people.’”

While emotions are said to be running high, the only reported response, according to San Antonio television station KENS-TV, is that “some students gathered in protest by reading their Bibles and praying.”

University officials said the campaign falls under the category of protected free speech.

I am sorry to hear this “Athiest” group has so much hate in their hearts. What possible good is this hate? We all know no response to this group would be the best for all people. What difference does it make if one believes in Christianity or just simply believes in kindness and what is right and what is not right. We all know this difference between right and wrong. It just sounds very wrong to offer someone porn in exchange for their bible.

It’s too bad there isn’t somewhere else you could find a limitless pool of free porn without giving creepy people on your campus your stuff. Some kind of magical inter-connected network of computers maybe.

It would be better if that person put a millstone around his neck and drowned before turning one of these away from God.

I don’t judge and I pray for these Atheist, who in most cases i’ve seen are really just angry with God. The Good Lord is amazingly capable of breaking even the most harden of hearts and letting them find Him. I also pray for those exchanging their Bibles, But I would venture to guess if it is truly that individuals Bible then they won’t be trading it for porn.

This story sounds about on a par with the Birther stories still around insisting that President Obama isn’t really a United States citizen, or with stories from the 70′s & 80′s stating that Rock albums had hidden Satanic messages in them, or any sort of conspiracy – type theories.

For one thing, it’s taking place in San Antonio, TX, which is – Unless I’m mistaken – pretty much ” Bible – Belt ” country.
And for another, it’s supposedly taking place at the University of TX in San Antonio. I’m assuming that this kind of thing wouldn’t take place at a State & / or Federally – funded educational institution w / out losing a certain amount of funding or facing some sanctions.

I’m sorry, I just find it hard to believe that an institution of higher learning would ” green – light ” this activity like this, it sounds like a conspiracy theory.

Besides, porn can be obtained via so many other outlets ( like this very Internet ! ), I don’t think that people would have to be persuaded to turn in their Bibles for it. I find this whole idea hard to swallow.

Huh, I wonder where they got that idea (looks at the fundamentalist bapists and teabaggers). Anyway, its a great program and since I travel a lot, I have a ton of bibles to turn in. Thank you gideons!!! These are the kind of comments you can expect since you wont unsubscribe me like I asked.

How can atheists be angry at a God that don’t exist in their heads?

So many people are missing the point of what this groups is doing. This has nothing to do with angering Christians or to serve as an outlet for any hatred. The purpose of what they are doing is twofold:

first, they are openly demonstrating their belief that the supposed “sin” or “evil” of porn is far less than the negativity they find in the Bible. Whether you agree or disagree, this groups is simply saying, “hey, you think looking at some people having sex is bad? Let me show you the Bible and I’ll show you some stuff that’s ten times worse”.

second, they are demonstrating their belief that there are more people than we think that share their beliefs. They are telling the public that there are people out there who would rather have a porn magazine on their bookshelf than a Bible. Agree or disagree, but that’s the point they are trying to make.

The view that atheists are simply angry, hateful people who are seeking to irritate theists needs to stop. Methods may seem loud and even controversial, but one shouldn’t stop there. You have to go past that and look for the message.

    Worst. “News article”. Ever.

This piece of trash cites “Seigelstein”. Full name? Position? Authority? I’ve read this three times and can’t find this basic info.

Will not bother to pull the other on-line sources. They may have addressed “the New Atheism”, but I watch/read these sources often enough to know that they took a tone unlike that which beliefnet.com is spouting today.

Well, so much for “prayer” as I understand it. So much for the Bible as good, interesting literature (as opposed to being a “history”). So much for your disingenous “mission”. I’ll be checking you out to see if you are just another organization abusing the IRS tax-exempt status.

This is the most ludicious thing I have ever heard and one day they will realize in the maybe near future. When the Lord returns they will be so sorry. They will pay dearly. God help them…………

43 You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you: 45 That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who makes his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and rains upon the just and the unjust.
