Top atheist says “dangerous, damaging and disingenuous” Christians “must be eradicated”

posted by

American Atheists, a non-profit that claims to protect the rights of atheists and to ensure the “absolute separation of government and religion,” always seems to find itself in the middle of controversy, writes Billy Hallowell at the news website the Blaze.

“As if the most recent Ground Zero cross lawsuit the group launched isn’t enough to inspire widespread angst, an explosive new blog post on the organization’s web site advocating for the ‘eradication’ of fundamental Christians (and Islamists) is certain to make waves,” notes Hallowell:

In the post, Al Stefanelli, American Atheists’ Georgia State Director, makes a bizarre connection between radical Muslims and Christians. In speaking about “fundamentalist Christian and radical Islamic doctrines,“ Stefanelli says that both are ”dangerous, damaging and disingenuous.” Throughout the blog post, he continues to create ties between these two groups, but declines to truly define them.

Aside from making this comparison, he goes on to write that “most of these people” (again referring to both fundamentalist Christians and Islamists) “lack the maturity and intelligence” to act in “a socially acceptable manner.” Many of these adherents, he believes, are “sociopaths,” “psychopaths” or simply “delusional.”

He then claims that radical interpretations of the Bible and the Koran require that believers “kill the infidel,” but he provides no evidence that Christians here in America are seeking to do anything along those lines.

It doesn’t take long for Stefanelli to take aim at conservative media and political leaders (including Glenn Beck), either. He writes:

“The atheist community gets angry when we read about the antics of idiotic, ignorant and imbicillic [spelling his] politicians and celebrities like Palin, Bachmann, Beck, Limbaugh, Pawlenty and Santorum. We post our thoughts on our social networks and our blogs and try to expose these creeps for exactly what they are. Most of the GOP, just about all of the Tea Party movement and even some Democrats and Independents should be ashamed of themselves for going out in public wearing the equivalent of an intellectual diaper. We criticize them for their rejection of science in favor of their fairy tales and write our letters and support our advocate organizations when our legal rights are abrogated.”

He quickly turned up the volatility, continuing:

“But the underbelly of fundamentalist Christianity and radical Islam does not operate in the legal system. They don’t respond to lawsuits, letters, amicus briefs or other grass-roots campaigns and they must, must, must be eradicated.”

Maybe it’s due to all the years of religious people calling book-writing atheists “militant.”

You want REAL militant atheists? Just keep demonizing us.

this man seems to be writing about hisself and his so-called organization. i wonder what he will say to God on judgement day, that is if God will allow him to speak at all. God’s grace and mercy on all of them who do not believe. i have a very strong feeling he’s going to feel what it means to be “eradicated”.

@ ookspay.. i like your way of thinking and speaking.. i may be just a lowly woman, in their eyes, but this child of God will gladly stand by your side and honor and fight for our Father and His son, Jesus, who is our ONLY salvation!!! and i fear for these people, eradication is what they face and it’s coming soon.. how can anyone even believe in what they say and look into their own children’s eyes????

I feel sorry for these athiests, on judjment day they will face god, and the great white throne judjment, wouldnt want to be in thier shoes on that day, or any day for that matter.

Though I’m NOT an atheist and I am a religious Christian, I do understand the Atheist’s position. Everyone is missing the point here. The problem is that the radical religious right are FORCING their beliefs on everyone else. Not everyone is Christian, not everyone is religious and not everyone believes in GOD. Why can’t we let people live their own lives as we wish to live our own. We are getting more judgemental of others and insist on forcing our beliefs on everyone else. As long as someone is not harming others or you, they should be FREE

I would say he is right on the money! I have met many fundamentalist Christians and would say they are damaged and disingenuous. I’m not sure if they are dangerous but I’ve seen them commit questionable moral acts and then point the finger at the someone else. A radical, evangelical always seems to be covering something inside themselves up. They are usually living a lie or/and are delusional.

  • http://AddaURLtothiscomment Eggshells

I’m sick of walking on eggshells worrying about Christians and trying to not offend. Christian will be the first ones to demonize atheists and non-believers. They will be the first ones to point the finger and say we should die. Someone needs to give them a taste of their own medicine! Evangelical Christians are very, very dangerous people. They are definitely delusional and although the people should not be eradicated the mind set should! Wipe out this insane Christianity. The Bible has caused more wars, more misunderstanding, more arguments and more hate than any other book in the world. If there is a devil I would say the bible was written by him. I’m not joking!

Here is a man who has mental issues and needs psychiatric attention.
He speaks just as a certain German spoke of Jews, Gypsies and other non-Aryans in the late 1930′s and early 1940′s and we all know what that led to.

I believe that Christians and Islamics are all the same they are all hypocrites. They all contridict themselves. You have so many preachers that preach the bible and what they do they sexually abuse kids, cheat on there wives, and use there own congregation to live off of. I was married for 15 yrs to my ex husband we were baptize together raised out child together and he was not a preacher yet he went to church, listen to cds and watched dvds on creflo dollar preached to my son about adultrey and he goes and commits adultrey and tells my son that hes living me because of my attitude. My son is going through depression right now. The woman he left me for he claims is more christian then me she knew from the day she met him that he was married and she did not care. I read the bible I know Gods word. Christians or should I say Christians that claim to be are the worst kind ever they want to put themselves so high up and keep away from people that are not christians because they feel that those people are bad influences yet those people that dont go to church and raise there hands to praise God are the ones that dont sexually abuse kids, dont cheat on there wives, or kill people. And if they do aleast they dont look stupid like the Christians do because they did not brag about being a christian. Nobody in this world is better then the next is looking at your self in the mirror and seeing who you really are. Ask your self who are you really. God accepts anyone the way they are yes but the bad that you do in this earth you will always pay. God does forgive yet real repentance is when you do bad and you repent to God the bad that you have done and leave that bad stay away from that bad dont go back to that bad and just keep moving forward. For example you cheat on your spouse the person that you cheated on your spouse leave that person go back to your spouse and make your marriage work not try because trying is like nothing is making it happen that means something. Saying you tried you really dont. Its making it work and happen that has more meaning.

Missy, we have to be careful not to hate God just because His children sometimes are jerks. God is good. Our challenge — like that of Job — is to trust Him even when terrible, inexplicable things happen … particularly at the hand of people who claim to be His children.

May God have mercy on this individual. The simple fact is that why not believe in God and if He doesn’t exist we loose nothing and if He exists we gain the eternal life after death.

Eggshells, Do you know how many people were brutally tortured and murdered by the philosophies of Nietzsche and Marx alone? Over 55 million people in less than 50 years! You have the audacity to say that Christianity–not secular humanism is to blame. The Bible is correct when it states, “The fool has said in his heart that there is no God!” I’ll pray for you.

Someone should tell this guy that was he is doing is actually part of Bible prophecy….

  • http://AddaURLtothiscomment Debpark

So much for tolerance and living peacably with those who have a different worldview…
and they call Christians and Jews intolerant..the word hypocracy comes to mind.
I have atheists in my world who are NOT iignorant nor intolerant..and most of my Christian and Jewish friends…so we now can apply a new term” fundamentalist atheists”

  • http://EradicatingtheChristians Inga

The atheists should be eradicated, because they are Satanists in disguise! They are the dangerous ones and are ruining our nation, our children and society in general.

  • http://AddaURLtothiscomment Christian and Loving it

Those poor, pathetic Atheists! First, to equate peaceful, loving Christians with a bloody cult like Islam! All one need do is read the New Testament, MEET our Savior Jesus Christ, then compare Him with the founder of Islam, Mohammad.
Second, we Christians are in no way dangerous to Atheists or anyone else! We do NOT force them to become Christians: they may accept or not, it is their right, freely offered!
They are so angry with us because they do not like to face the truth! They KNOW that if they admit there is GOD, they MUST take responsibility for their actions, and eventually, will face Judgement for the wrongs they have done…and this they FEAR!! So they think if they deny the existence of God and His Son Jesus Christ, They will go away, but alas for the Atheists!…The Creator and His Son are here to stay!! BTW, God even mentioned the Atheists by name in the scriptures: Read Psalm 14, verse 1

Deut.22:28 is NOT talking about rape. Look at the key words in the previous verses–forces her–she cries out. That is rape. In verse 28, the sex is consensual. The fact that the NIV and other translations use the word “rape” is wrong. It isn’t rape if she did not cry out. The original translations say “lay hold on her” not “force her.” There is a difference between those two phrases. And if she did not cry out or struggle, it means she consented to the sex.

  • http://AddaURLtothiscomment James

Atheists are all sniveling cowards! This is proof of that!

Talking about being intellectual- I want
an) aetheist(s) to be able to explain reasons that the sun doesn’t shine in New York City, NY and Jersalem Israel at the same time. Too hard?? Remember if you want to call me stupid, how do you know the characteristics unless one fills the spot first? Doesn’t it take expereience being stupid before calling other people stupid?

  • http://AddaURLtothiscomment David

Sir you are reacting very negatively about something that you believe doesn’t exist. If there is no God, why are you so against those you show a profession of faith. Your argument proves there is a God and you are afraid of him!

What’s wrong with church today? Are we in danger of turning worship into a flashy concert? Of watering down the message so nobody is offended? Of forgetting the simplicity of the Gospel? I grew up with a preacher’s kid. He was a fake following in the footsteps of his flimflamming father who d
