GODONOMICS: Why can’t we tax the rich some more and fix all our problems?

“Godonomics” author Chad Hovind recalls:

Margaret Thatcher said, “The problem with Socialism is you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

I had a conversation with a teenager recently who parroted the typical bumper sticker thinking of our culture: “Why don’t those rich people pay more taxes?” I asked him how much they are currently paying? He admitted that he didn’t know. I asked him what percentage of the national tax revenue would meet the definition of “their fair share?” He didn’t know exactly. I then gave him some facts to consider:

86% of all income taxes are paid by the top 25% of income earners.

The top 50% of income earners pay 97% of all income taxes.

The top 1% of income earners pay 39% of all taxes.

This young man was shocked. He had never heard these facts. As I looked into his eyes, he looked…almost…like he was…THINKING for the first time. He was engaging his brain and chewing over the chasm between his assumptions and reality. I encouraged him to look it up. I suggested he research the facts to confirm them. Then I asked him to think some more.

nice figures. how about the real ones. 98% of the country pays 33% to 35%, the top 2% are taxed at an 18% rate. not to mention loop holes. those loop holes bring it down even more. freedom isn’t free right? why does that only apply to the military? for the rich they need to pay more or send their kids to war. tax the rich feed the poor until there is no poor, no more. (bob dylan).

btw don’t the richest neighborhoods in america have the most police patrolling. that’s the way it is here in the midwest. the rich use more resources and do not pay the fair share. so nice they have circled their wagons and want the poor to suffer more. it is shocking how compassionate these conservatives are, truly shocking. the jesus way – help the old, needy, and weak. the republican way: step on their throats, why should we keep “paying” their way. i pray that the rich will see the errors of their ways, and truly find compassion.

Does Sunday Morning Church Really Need All This Glitter, Showmanship and Gimmickry?
What’s wrong with church today? Are we in danger of turning worship into a flashy concert? Of watering down the message so nobody is offended? Of forgetting the simplicity of the Gospel? I grew up with a preacher’s kid. He was a fake following in the footsteps of his flimflamming father who d
