Why Are Movie Titles So “Bad?”

posted by Nell Minow

Dan Kois has a funny piece in Slate about the use of the word “bad” in so many recent movie titles.  I love the movie posters Slate created for retitled classics.  Would you see “Jaws” if it was renamed “Bad Fish?”

This may explain the title of the true crime miniseries “Underbelly: Badness.” (The series itself is decent, though it doesn’t quite have the power of previous installments).

The Seth Rogen movie Neighbors was released locally as Bad Neighbours, apparently to distinguish it from “Neighbours” (Everybody needs good neighbours/With a little understanding/you can find the perfect blend.)

That make sense, Toby — did you see it? What did you think?

Nope. I’m not a fan of Seth Rogen, and like you I’m not a fan of movies about irresponsible jerks who won’t grow up.
