Clash of the Titans — the Original

posted by Nell Minow

Get ready for the upcoming release of the new “Clash of the Titans” by taking another look at the original, starring Harry Hamlin as Perseus and Laurence Olivier as Zeus, now available on Blu-Ray and on iTunes. It is an epic fantasy, filled with drama, passion and old-school stop-motion animated creatures from creative genius and special effects wizard, Ray Harryhausen.
The new “Clash of the Titans” stars Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and “Avatar’s” Sam Worthington and will be in theaters April 2.

Is there any way that the CGI and other SFX will come up to the great Ray Harryhausen’s Medusa? Will Sam Worthington look as good as Harry Hamlin in a toga?

Were it not for Harry Harryhausen’s work this film would have been a blip, a bump, or a beep in filmdom. But his work is surely the actual star of the movie.

Exactly right, jestrfyl! The acting is hammy and the script is weak but I love those Harryhausen effects.

One of my favorite writers provides insights into one of my favorite (if flawed) movies -- Matt Zoller Seitz created a beautiful video essay about Bob Fosse's autobiographical "All That Jazz" for the Criterion Edition, and then they were unable to use it due to rights problems with the movie clips h
