Reading Rockets: Where the Wild Things Are Family Kit

posted by Nell Minow

Get ready for the release of “Where the Wild Things Are” by reading the book! Reading Rockets has a great site with resources including an interview with author Maurice Sendak. Did you know he originally wrote it as a story about horses?

And here’s a short animated version of the book:

I grew up on this book and will be seeing it with my children in 2 weeks.

Thanks, Mr. Sanchez! Let me know what you and the children think of it.

My wife and I though it very inappropriate for children with a very disturbing theme and message.

Thanks, Jim. In my review of the movie, I made it clear that the feature film is about childhood, not for children. This is why I posted the animated version, which is just a re-telling of the book.
