Happy Birthday Doris Day!

posted by Nell Minow

Mary Anne von Kappelhoff — better known as Doris Day — turns 87 today! She could do it all — comedy, drama, music, romance. She is best known for her light romantic comedies but her signature song comes from a Hitchcock thriller, The Man Who Knew Too Much. Two of my favorite Day movies are:

The Thrill of It All!

Lover Come Back

This is nice to hear. Doris Day’s acting appears to be underrated by many. Her performances in “The Man Who Knew Too Much,” and “Midnight Lace” were incredibly intense. Of course, I’ve seen many of her light comedies, and particularly enjoyed “Pillow Talk.”
I read her autobiography recently, and she’s had quite a life, and not very good luck with the men in her life.
That, and nearly being targeted by the Manson family because of her son’s music business ties.

I just want to wich Doris Day a very happy birthday today. She has made me happy all these years with her wonderful movies & TV shows. I wish you the best…and many more happy years. Marji

Thank you, Ms. Day, for years of joy, for giving us yourself, and for being a strong woman to whom I and my daughters can look to as a model.
    Happy Birthday!

Happy Happy Birthday Clara Bixby! Your life is a marvelous blessing in my life. Thank you for the joy you have given me. You are more than my idol…you have been an important and positive influence for me since I was a kid. I hope that you can feel all the love, respect and gratitude flowing towards you today and every day. With huge love – Sunny

Hey! Happy birthday. Thanks for all the music and memories. You hold a special place in my heart. Always.

Happy Birthday Doris Day! Thank you so much for all of your wonderful music, movies, and television. I have enjoyed all of your movies and always look forward seeing you on TMC. My favorite movie is your performance in Young Man with a Horn. It seems like you were showing some of yourself in that flick. Thank you for your all of your quality films and I hope you are having a great day with your family. Best wishes to you.

Thank you, Doris, for all the enjoyment you’ve given to me through your films and music. You are what is so sadly lacking today; someone, who truly can be called a star. You are a class act for your fans and for the animals you advocate for.

Thank you, Doris Day, for how you made my life more bearable as a kid when I watched your movies on TV in New Jersey in the 60′s. My mother worked in New York for Bob Considine, the New York Times columnist, and we had to let ourselves in everyday after school, we were “latchkey” kids before the term became to be commonly used, I wanted to be just like you – funny, cute, and good-hearted. All of my life, it was movies as Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, The Thrill of it All, Lover Come Back, and Meg Ryan’s movies, French Kiss, Sleepless in Seattle, and You’ve Got Mail; and Love Affair with Cary Grant, and others that not only made me laugh, but also gave me hope and joy. These movies, the actresses, and the writers not only gave us an escape from our daily concerns, but hope, and even “role models.” So, thank you Doris Day, God bless you, and Happy Birthday.

I will send these greetings on to Ms. Day. I know she will be very touched. I am thrilled to hear from other Doris Day fans — thanks to all of you for some wonderful comments!

Dear Doris, You are and will always be my favorite celebrity, and I know you are a WONDERFUL PERSON also. I have always loved your movies, and of course your BEAUTIFUL music. What a GORGEOUS VOICE! Thanks for all you have done entertainment-wise and all you do now for animals, which I know you’ve done for a long time also. It is heroic. I’m so sorry for the painful things that you have had to go through in your life. Life is very hard sometimes. I hope you have a happy birthday, and God’s richest blessings. I’m so glad that you were born and became famous so millions of us could be blessed by you, if only from a distance. Have a Joyous day!

The November Man
Pierce Brosnan knows what it is like to play a spy in a big-budget, glamorous, blockbuster. He was the most urbane of Bonds in four movies. He knows what it is to play a seedier spy in a prestige, mildly meta movie, the 2001 film "The Tailor of Panama" (with Daniel Radcliffe in a pre-Potter role). S
