Movie Mom

Coming Attractions (September 2008)

There’s only one movie opening up this week, “Bankok Dangerous” with Nicolas Cage. That’s everything I know about it. It isn’t screening for critics, and that means the studio is pretty sure it won’t even get one good review.

But next week, things really pick up! I am very excited about “Righteous Kill,” starring Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino.

And I am even more excited about “Burn Before Reading,” from the Coen Brothers (“Fargo,” “No Country for Old Men”), starring George Clooney, Frances McDormand, and Brad Pitt.

Stay tuned!

“Burn Before Reading” looks like it might be great. I hope it is more like “Raising Arizona” and less like “The Big Lebowski.”
(The violence in “Raising Arizona” was cartoon-like and didn’t break the comedic mood, while the violence in “Lebowski” was way too realistic for a comedy.)

A good point, Alicia. Where do you think “Fargo” fits in on that list?

I think of “Fargo” as a tragedy with comic overtones. It shows all of the consequences that follow from one really bad decision by the character played by William H. Macy.

Trailer: Chef
Jon Favreau follows his big-budget special effects movies ("Iron Man," "Cowboys and Aliens") with a return to his small, indie roots ("Swingers") as director/writer/star of the scrumptious-looking "Chef."  (WARNING: Some strong language) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tP6SE65F-h4[/yout

Have a Blessed Easter: Movies for the Family
My gallery of Easter movies includes "Ben Hur," several different movie versions of the life of Jesus, a couple of choices just for kids, and a classic musical named for a classic song, Irving Berlin's "Easter Parade." There's something for every family celebrating this weekend. https://
