The Speech I Didn’t Give

posted by Brandi Harkonen

While struggling with a speech, Martha Williamson was reminded that amazing things can happen when we give up control and ask for God’s help.

Yes we’ve all had experiences like that where we just have to trust God cause he knows what’s best! Enjoyed your sharing, you speak very clearly and sincerely.

Oh Martha, what a inspiring message today! I have been struggling with finding my own peace with God. Amoung all my emails in my inbox today, two devotionals revealed to me to trust in Him and everything will be okay. Your message as well. Thank you for the lift in spirits.
God Bless!

I had a roller-coaster week this week, but I DID do what Martha suggested in this excellent video – I surrendered my future to GOD. After sellilng my condo in record time, I thought I had a place to go to. But, after filling out all the papers and writing all the checks, they did a credit reference on me while I was sitting in the room; it came back “Rejected” because of some delinquent accounts. I went home crestfallen – where could I possibly find something with 2 weeks notice? I sat on my patio, full of apprehension and anxiety, when it occurred to me to “Let Jesus take it from me.” After all, God fashioned us in the womb, and has plans for us beyond our meager hopes and fears. Well, I was lucky (really?). I found a place the day I was rejected, that took my application and were willing to wait for my money from the closing!! It just goes to show you how MIRACULOUS God’s love and plans are for us. When He closes one door, he ALWAYS opens another. We “propose,” and God “disposes.” Although I really WANTED the first place I looked, my Heavenly Father had different plans for me. And, I am truly grateful.

Your video today was a confirmation of what I had thought last night and this morning. I had recently again been rejected by members of my biological family. I recognized the rejection and instead of getting upset and extremely sad, I turned my thoughts to what comfort I’ve learned God has provided to me in the past when I was at my lowest. I realized I’ve provided my own ‘family’ in replacement to comfort me–my son, my partner, my community and church contacts, my closer friends than my sisters… Instead of feeling extreme depression, I acknowledged to my partner the support he has provided to me for 31 yrs. since we married Mar. 17, 1979. God provided when I needed then, and God will provide in rejections I get now. My responses to my biological family will come at God’s time.

Martha…thank you once again for such a wonderfulreminder of how “Sweet Surrender” can make all the difference.
I,too, enjoy speaking for what I call volunteer appreciation events. I am also a professional clown which is a spin-off of my singing and acting career which has included doing comedy roles…medicine for my own soul which had been broken since childhood. Laughter and tears have been God’s healing recipee…what great gifts!
Your experience of not being able to see the notes…and just letting God speak to that audience through your own faithful heart “rings a bell” with me. So often…I follow my notes for a couple of paragraphs and before I know it …God takes over. After all, he knows who is there to hear what needs to be spoken. Everytime I go out with my notes…and the knees knock or dry mouth sets in…I ask him to take over…and the positive responses almost shock me! Why should we be shocked when He was in charge of the whole thing! I almost doubt that “I” could have been that good…and question as you did! Then I realize, of course…I didn’t “Work alone”!
You really blessed me with this “report” and confirmed that there is no need to fear but to consider it a blessing to be an encourager!

I, too, have done a fair amount of public speaking — at Mother-Daughter Banquets, Church Conferences, etc. Have also found myself wandering away from my notes and discovered after that it was God-driven (comments from audience). What blessings to me from God!! I have been encouraged to write a book, and would like to, but . . . . am waiting for God’s inspiration. Please pray for me if I am supposed to do this.

Bless you, Martha, for your beautiful message today. My mom’s best friend passed away this weekend, unexpectedly. I have been thinking about talking to her friends and family during this time and was wondering how to do this. Now I know, from the heart. Thank you for the reminder today to listen to God. When we ask for answers, they are always given. This was an answer to my prayers. Thank you for being a beautiful messenger. Blessings with love and grace,

Martha,
Unfortunately the video did not play for me. But I was able to read the responses of all who did get to view it. Their reaction inspired me. Like everyone else I have been going through struggles. Who doesn’t at some time or other. But the messages are clear. Surrender and rely on God to do what we cannot. A helpful reminder that we need to hear along the way. Today I will do my best.
Thank You so very much & God Bless You and all the commentors

Thank you Martha for sharing that inspiring video. It came to me at the right time amongst the 700 some-odd emails waiting in my mailbox and I was lucky enough to open it and find the inspiration and encouragement that I so needed today. I have an elderly grandmother who is under my care and I will have to stand up and give a speech for at some time in the near future which frightens me. I awoke today in great need of some spiritual guidance and had prayed to God to help me get through these mixed emotions and hearing your words has helped and encouraged me. It is once again confirmation that when we ask..we recive. God Bless you and all the wonderful work you do.

((((((Martha)))))
This speech you gave and shared how it came about, was absolutely what I ,myself needed to hear today. I have a blog talk radio show on the Internet, in which every Saturday, before I present my “Messages of Hope”, I pray and ask God to place His words in my mouth, His thoughts in my head, and His love in my heart. I ask for increased wisdom and discernment and to place a new heart and spirit within me as well…His :) Sometimes I research information to also help people, so I do at times prepare for my show, in that way as well.
I belong to God.
Martha, Thank you for sharing this with me, as this upcoming week Saturday 7pm pacific time, I will indeed do that very thing as you shared, and allow myself to share what is within my heart. I hope it will touch others and be used to encourage and inspire others, as your speech did.
I love you, Martha,(though we have never met or really do not know each other)I feel a connection to you, and appreciate all the years you have shared such heartfelt godly stories, , you are a gift from God dear, and someday , Lord willing I would love to meet you.
Love and Sincerely
“Mama Joyce”

WOW, GREAT REMINDER THAT WE OFTEN TIE UP GODS HANDS BY TRYING TO DO THINGS ON OUR OWN. GOD IS RIGHT THERE FOR US IN TIME OF NEED AND ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS ASK. WHAT SEEMS HARD OR IMPOSSIBLE FOR US IS NEVER IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD….AND WHEN WE LET GO AND LET GOD SUCH AS U DID YOU GAVE MORE THAN YOU EVER COULD HAVE. IT WAS REAL AND STRAIT FROM THE HEART….MAY GOD CONTINUOUSLY BLESS YOU FOR YOUR GIFT OF SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCES AND INSPIRING SO MANY OF US. VERY ENCOURAGING AND UPLIFTING.

I think that what I like most about you, Martha, is your humility. You are always so honest about yourself and your stories are all thought provoking. I admire you for this honesty and humility.
