It’s not any worse than FOX news.
It’s sad, but Republicans are gonna be eating this stuff for breakfast come the general election because McCain isn’t different from Bush.
I challenge any Beliefnet goer to give just three clear substantial difference between McCain and Bush.

An amazing debate…flag pins! We have an administration that sanctioned torture, an economy that’s tanking, a war going into its sixth year, and the questions were about flag pins? No wonder more and more people are getting their news from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert…at least the humor there is intentional.

Brian,
1. John McCain voted against the Family Marriage Amendment which the President Supported.
2. McCain is principally a small-government conservative while Bush is principally a social conservative.
3. McCain took a practical rather ideological view of how to fight the war in Iraq.
4. Special bonus difference: John McCain is a committed multi-lateralist on most matters.
I remain your humble servant.

1. John McCain is intelligent and informed.
2. McCain is competent and pragmatic.
3. McCain is not a pseudo-religious ideologue.
And, because of his background as a tortured prisoner of war, he will put an end to Guantanamo, torture and extraordinary rendition; lifting the shame this has cast upon the United States.

Doug,
McCain suggested in a town hall that we could be in Iraq for another 100 years. The Iraq war profiteering venture is more money in terms of real dollars and outlay than anything any Democrat has proposed since FDR. If McCain supports Iraq, he’s not a small government conservative; instead, he’s a tool for goons like Haliburton.
We lost Iraq. They’re in a civil war right now. Our troop levels are straining the military to the point that we can’t respond to anything else. Maybe, Doug you and your friends could go over there and fight if you really think it’s a worthy cause. I’ve yet to meet any Republican that’s willing to volunteer for the oil war, even though gas will likely be around $5 a gallon by year’s end.
The whole war with Iraq was non-multilateral ideological hubris and McCain supported it initially. Obama didn’t support it when he campaigned for the Senate.
Republicans wanted war so badly that FOX news had a countdown like a Dick Clark New Year’s Ball Drop. Now Iraq will be the albatross around McCain’s neck.
It seems like the crap hits the fan in Iraq every summer. Last summer our troops patrolled their streets while parliament took a vacation.
Albert the Abstainer,
McCain loses points for hanging out with anti-Catholic all-around-obese and hateful preacher John Hagee. Hagee has so much blood-lust, he’s counting the days to the apocalypse.

Brian, he said we might have troops in Iraq for 100 years which is different from being at war that long and, frankly, it would be my honor to go if I hadn’t got too old, fat and decrepit in the meanwhile. McCain rightly loses points for hanging out with John Hagee and he rightly loses points for supporting the war in the first place but you asked for differences and I gave you three and Albert gave you three more. I think the difference on torture and extra-legal imprisonment that Albert brought up is a key difference morally. “Tool for Halliburton” is scurrilous and unsupportable. Also, McCain stood up to the anti-immigration majority in his party and both Obama and Clinton knelt down to the anti-trade minority in theirs. I respect that people who support Obama and Clinton have good reasons. It’s up to you whether you respect people who support McCain. Don’t make me no nohow.

Excuse me, but where was the question that also included raising your hand to show agreement? THIS is exactly the way the lefty media handles the GOP candidates. Obama is a smug elitist that looks down from his position as ruler and talks down to “George” like a Prince to a pauper. Totalitariiansim and authoritarian rule is the answer to all of the scrolling issues not addressed by the two Liberal-progressives. I for one thought it was enlightening to see a Democrat treated like a Republican in this debate sham being held month after month. The Elites like Obama and his miilion-dollar supporters, duping the masses sending in their pittance, will party like rockstars moments after being sworn in. Obama represents “change” back to days of hedonist Rome, where the rich elite enslaved the masses and placated them with violent entertainment. At least Mrs. Clinton is a good old fashioned sell-out, pandering politician. Obama is the real deal marxist socialist anti-America leftist through and through. And like all fascist rulers, he got pissed that the littler people were pressing him.

Obama’s willing to revisit trade deals like NAFTA that McCain won’t. I kind of feel that rural Republicans are getting their just deserts if McCain wins.

How do people like Donny feel about the lack of any major Evangelical organization that works to help get foster kids into loving homes, let alone provide prenatal care to single mothers? That’s the real work I think Christ would call us to. I challenge anybody in the Beliefnet community, especially Donny, to give a link to a major national Evangelical organization that engages in this activity instead of condemnation like the Pharisees and Scribes.
As far as the world coming to an end because of gay marriage, you wouldn’t have known it from the way the Republican majority in Congress voted in 2006. The majority of Republicans actually voted against a constitutional ban.
In fact, bastion of family values – Lynn Cheney – has a daughter who is an out and proud lesbian. Brian, why is it a hypocrisy for John McCain to say the ban on gay marriage by constitutional amendment is un-American? I agree with him and I suspect you do as well.
I don’t know about “major evangelical” organizations but my job before the one I do now was starting a Christian organization in rural Georgia that helps put foster children into loving homes. Honest.
Here’s something else John McCain has said that I agree with: we have differences of opinion but we are opponents, not enemies. I appreciate Barack Obama’s biography. I admire his intellect. I trust his intentions for the country’s welfare. The same is true of John McCain whose philosophy of government I happen to prefer. To tell the truth, if the GOP had nominated Giuliani, Romney, Thompson or Huckabee, I’d be happily supporting Obama. This is the first time since 2000 that Republicans have skipped an opportunity to alienate me and I’m still shocked.
Donny represents Donny and Lot’s wife, unable to look away from Sodom. He and those who agree with him are done electing people because the rest of us have seen the intolerable incompetence and immorality they are willing to defend. “I don’t know about “major evangelical” organizations but my job before the one I do now was starting a Christian organization in rural Georgia that helps put foster children into loving homes. Honest.”
I’ve been a metro public school teacher most of this decade and think all the talk about ‘No Child Left Behind’ is just that, just talk.
I’m tired of Evangelicals in my own family condemning my pro-choice views when they haven’t adopted and they don’t support healthcare for poor children or poor expectant mothers.
I’ll go as far to say that there are good Evangelicals. But for the most part (from my personal experience) they’re not peace lovers nor are they very smart.
I think if one sampled the offerings at Zondervan’s Christian bookstore that covered geo-politics (e.g., Hagee, Robertson, Reed, etc.) they could easily come to the same conclusion I have.
I have yet to even see David Kuo condemn the remarks of Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell: “We deserved 911!” Still, I think David’s an okay Evangelical.
In fact Doug, I’d probably rather have you be president than most GOP types including McCain. I gather from McCain that war is simply a way of life for him; and if our country keeps giving blood and treasure to Haliburton and other multinational interests through war, we’re gonna go bankrupt like the U.S.S.R.
I believe that Republican philosophy has become socialism for the rich. Just look at the constant corporate bailouts.

I’m not afforded such a voluminous platform here at Beliefnet. By I’ll try a response and see if it gets through B-nets filtering system. My God, is the God of the Bible. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God, that “The Left” repudiates in their very belief system and teachings. My anti-liberal/progressive views make the humanists that edit this sight very angry. Leftists do not allow dissent. “It” (they) is very Mark of The Beast like. War is not Christian. Gay marriage is not Christian. Forcing all to submit to hedonism and perversion is not Christian. The term “Tax collector” was used by Jesus with great disdain. (Treat your brother like a tax collector if he won’t repent.”) Democrat liberals are the tax collectors for sure in today’s America. Actaully “forcing” views on anyone, is not Christian. But honest debate is. The Liberal/progressive use force exclusively to inject and infect their ways onto an more decent populace, until that segment of society is infected and sick. Our youth culture shows proof of liberal ways. Abortion is murder in the first degree, AND it is forced into the consciousness of people (just like sodomy is) by indoctrinating and deluding children in the education system. Liberalism is the evil that is mentioned throughout the Bible corrupting the people of God. Cheney’s daughter is her own person and quite capable of being corrupted by her own choices. That is also Biblical (and historical) truth. Don’t blame parents for the vices grasped by their children UNLESS the parents promoted it by being liberal or by not being in the family structure. Which again, is un-Christian. Family to Christian culture is man, woman and their children, and taking care of those that don’t have that Godly structure. The parents being “married” by-the-way. We are not to lead children into sin. What is happening to the freedom of people in Barack’s state of Illinois is anti-moral. Check out the taxes in Cook County. Illinois is where Obama has most of his experience. The Democrats rule that state in a totalitarian fashion. From speech, to cars to the Second Amendment, ALL things pass through liberal/progressive filters. Of course the governement employees make great money, as long as they fit the ideological mold, they can tap into the forced tax dollars forced from honset people. Typical of the marxist they have become. Marxism is what they peddle no matter the neologism they implement to hide that fact. It is “The Left” that are the hypocrites. From slaughtering the unborn for convenience to altering the family nothing the represent is honorable anymore. Same-gender sex acts are perversion and disgusting (reprobate) behaviors. It is a symptom of a sick and dying society. That the people of God are corrupted by the society they live in as one major theme of the entire Bible. BUT, we are to still try to not do it. “The Left” champions all sickness. We went from the liberalization of marriage to an “anything goes” mentality, and of course deviance and perverions were suer to rise in level. Children are now sickened with sexually derived diseases. The Left, handles this with medication, condoms and lowering the age of consent and encouraging promiscuity. That is satanic. Pederasty always follows liberal ideology. Evangelical organizations have been feeding and caring for the poor exclusively for centuries. Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell are two examples and James Dobson is as fine a person as it gets. While communists and humanists (progressives) try to chant that they do that “too,” as we see, the Elites control everything under a communist-like system, including the voice on morality. But they are liars. A backwards Robinhood. Taking monbey from honest people and doing evil things with it. Liberals want to forcefully take money from honest people and distribute it to some very, very, dishonest and corrupt people, all the while, claiming that they represent freedom. They are liars. Taxes prove the evil of “The Left,” as well as their fondness for promoting perversion showing them for what they are. This country had its birth from fighting unfair taxation and monsters and totalitarians. But STILL, Leftists do not care about what “the people” think. Nor do they care about history. To reiterate, Liberals and Progressives tax the honest populace and force liberal/progressive views on everyone, including children. That is a fact. Shining a light on what liberals and progressives really are looks similar to what happens to vampires. They fight it. Obama is an anti-freedom marxist socialsit through and through, and is giving opium to the people as an opiate. The condition of the inner-city proves that too. It is “The Left” that wants drugs legalized. Another fact. Promising change and really bringing same old communism and corruption in a pretty package is the only path The Left has ever offered. “The Left” has been at this for decades, and the evil (inherent in Leftist actions) has been at this since the dawn of mankind. The Serpent asked the fisrt “liberal” question, and it was an afront to God. No wonder “The Left” hates Christianity and the truth of the Bible and must alter or abolish it all together. Same old story . . .. Etc., etc., etc.. How long before the chaos of what secularists and progressives are promoting, before we all need an identification on our bodies “for our own good?” I’m sure secular “scientists” will let us know.

McCain wants us to occupy Iraq indefinitely and has said so publicly, he has NO clue about the economy, he can’t remember the difference between the Sunni and the Shi’ites or which terrorists are which, he falls asleep in the middle of Senate hearings, he has a hair-trigger temper, demonstrated by his lashing out at his colleagues and his own wife (whom he called a c— IN PUBLIC, yes), and he thinks “hubris” is the name of a Greek god.
He’s a military hero and a good guy, but he’d make a lousy President. We will never get out of the mess we’re in if we don’t change direction. Obama isn’t perfect, but he’s smart and he will go into office less beholden to special interests than any president in recent history. He has run a superb campaign; even his political enemies have to grant him that. He has the ability to inspire and to unify people, a rare gift. I am thrilled to see so many millions of young people getting involved in the political process. We need them, their energy, their idealism, their optimism. There were 35,000 people in Philadelphia last night who came to hear Obama. You can sit back and criticize him and grouse, but what have you got to show for the last eight years of Republican rule? It’s been an utter failure and worse. Torture, an unending war, a faltering economy, gas prices through the roof, people losing their jobs, their health care, their homes. This is all directly traceable to Republican policies designed to make the rich richer and the poor poorer–the widening gap happens every time the Republicans are in office. Are YOU better off than you were eight years ago? Do you think Republicans really give a rat’s you-know-what about the middle class, about families, about public schools, about health care? No and no and no and no. And they have cynically manipulated people of faith to vote against their own economic and social interests by using all kinds of God-language while their actions show clearly that their sole concern is increasing their own power and wealth. Ye shall know them by their fruits. And their fruits are rotten.

I’m telling everybody, Donny proves Obama’s point. People like him cling to their version of god.
The economy is suffering because the Iraq war is not free. If you don’t understand that your being taxed at the gas pump by the ‘Dick Cheney Coalition’, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
Troops are being taxed by multiple deployments. Their families are being taxed. This is all for a war based on lies promoted by a corporate media and swallowed whole by people like Donny.
At this point, I’m not trying to argue with Donny and I wouldn’t encourage anyone else to argue. I’m saying that there are many people just like him and they prove that Obama is not an elitist, but that he’s telling it like it is.
Many evangelicals minds have been so warped, they still believe Bush is an honorable man. They believe Dick Cheney’s closed door energy meetings were meant to benefit the general populace even though energy costs have been hyper-inflated since.
Evangelicals don’t understand that their own beloved Republican Congress could care less about family values. In 2006 more Republicans voted against the constitutional ban on gay marriage than had at any time prior, and they had the majority.
Think Mark Foley going after teenage boys. Think Larry Craig soliciting sex in a public restroom. Think John McCain saying the constitutional ban on gay marriage is un-American.

Your reasons which you claim to be scriptural are in reality – born out of a resentment. You claim God’s word but reveal an accusing nature, a “bitterness” as it were that cannot clearly hear God – only the bits of God that you believe confirm your rage.
No one doubts your love of God – some do doubt your ability to see beyond your particular biases. I’m sure holy people in your life have pointed this out and asked you to do something – they love you. To react in sarcasm and fury – well – it doesn’t work.
Just read a great little book – The Power of forgiveness – there’s an accompanying film. it might be a great little start in widening your view. Another film l- just came out on DVD – Lars and the Real Girl. The minister in the film is truly the voice of Jesus. He only says about four things, but they are enough. Great little film about Christian community and Christian love.

Pat little answers and justifications for what cannot be justified, is still the position of the leftist/liberal/progrssive when confronted with opposition to their altering and destroying of the Biblical witness. Of course “truth” in detailing their ills is handled by psychology 101 tactics. Leftists can only mimic their teachers. There is no forgiveness without repentance. “Christian Community and Christian love,” does not support and promote sin and sinning. Yet we find the condoning of sin happening in liberal and progressive groups with a zeal to grasp that with a civil right to do so. And if anything defines “The Left” it is a horror of repenting for evil deeds. Preaching and implementing repentance is now called phobia, intolerance and hate crime “from” liberals and progressives. Not one Apostle and not one place in the Gospels affirms and supports liberal/progressive ideology and goals. Of course that is ignored to accuse me of meanness (which is OK to do If all truth is to be considered important). The Knee-jerk trained responses towards those that oppose a “new” version of Biblical truth (which of course is oxymoron) typifies the deluded, and/or malevolent group of people desiring to change the Gospel and New Testament witness to usher in the anti-Christ movement under the guise of change and progress. This is detailed as the ways of the evil and powerful throughout the New Testament. Psychology replaces the need to face the facts. “He’s a nagry guy.” How fascinating thgat Jesus was accused of as having a demon. I am not silent, and no matter the style of my delivery, this progressive and liberal “thing” is antithetical to Jesus and the Gospel and the testimony of the Apostles and martyrs that built the Church. Look at this trained response: “It’s all about the benjamins.” It is to the Left. That is all they do with the support of the people following them. They ARE tax collectors. A class of person that Jesus mentioned when “finally” stopping the salvation process. Just a quick view of Obama’s little kingdom of Illinois, shows that taxes and money are what liberal and progressives want almost as much as they do children’s minds and bodies. I agree with the Gospel and I agree with the Apostles. That is too aggressive to a leftist. Jesus and the Apostles were put away long ago in their ideology as enemies of the progress ideology, that looks eerily like ancient pagan days. If you could shake the mind-controlling conditioning that you have embraced, you could see the difference between liberal and progressive actions and that of the Christian community “it” and “they” copy but alter without conscience. “I don’t want them PUNISHED, with a BABY!!!!” If you cannot see the evil that permeates the individual that proclaimed that, then you need supernatural help. And yet, I am charged with being the angry and inappropriate voice. Obama (and all leftists) encourages people to murder children from a platform of politics loud and clear. The Left offers the same old standard evil that has been grasped by people since Noah’s antagonists, Lot’s neighbors and Roman citizens took a stand. Their voices ring out the same way: Mockery, and derision and laughter and accusing decent people of indecent behavior. What was once pagan, detestable and anti-Christ, is now called “change for progress.” The proof is in the actions. Try dealing with that fact and stop the ad hominem responses that are always used by liberals and progressives to ignore reality.

If we don’t review what is government for to begin with I will be arguing forever and not going anywhere. It is a waste of time trying to convince anyone that has wrong motives or just loves to argue just because of the fun of it. At tis level you people are arguing is not productive. Having said this, I hope some of you re-examine your positions for the best of this contry. It is we the people doing extraordinary things what is important. It is freedom and liberty what is inportant unless we have lost so much of our virtues that we need more government which should only be limited if we are productive and not dependant on hand outs paid by other people.

Twenty-three rounds, it seems, is enough. What comes next? We'll go back to what we did after the surgery. We'll watch and measu
