“It is God, it isn’t your uncle”

This morning Kim and I were talking about the utter mystery of, well, everything – especially the bad and troubling things. Finally, in a summation that draws on her sensible Kansas roots, her voracious intellect, her snazzy Stanford education, and her deep faith she says this, “It is God, it isn’t your uncle.”
I am not sure I have ever heard such theologically wise words.

Someone once said to me – God’s God and you’re not. Sort of a mini-sythesis of Job.

And Augustine of Hippo, too, Thinker.

Well, would Augustine say that it’s partly your uncle, too, Doug? (Assuming it’s something that he did that’s suboptimal).
O/T, but maybe you would like to respond to this article, criticizing Christine Todd Whitman for saying she left the EPA to “spend more time with my family,” when in fact, she now claims, it was because she was resigning over principle.
The writer goes on to claim that Peter Edelman was the last person to openly resign on principle from an administration.
Your thoughts?

Your wife is a wise woman. But then again, you knew that.
So much for my prayers to Uncle God…

That’s right, He’s not our Uncle. He’s our Father.
