Rev. Al Sharpton speaks on faith:

“As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don’t worry about that; that’s a temporary situation,” Sharpton said Monday during a debate with Hitchens at the New York Public Library’s Beaux-Arts headquarters.

There isn’t a lot of wiggle room here for Sharpton. It seems that Sharpton thinks Mormons don’t really believe in God. More than that it seems that Sharpton doesn’t even think that a Mormon should be allowed to be president.

It is time for Rev. Sharpton to live up to his own Pharisaical standards. He has shown himself to be a bigot – a bigot against minority faiths. He has shown himself to be intolerant to those who don’t think like he does or believe like he does. He has opened the door to charges of racism since Mormons are so heavily Caucasian.

It is time for Rev. Sharpton to go. He should step down from the pulpit of his church. Oh wait, he doesn’t have a church. He hasn’t even been to seminary. No matter. He should clearly be forced to give up his talk show. His advertisers should be shamed into withdrawing their support for a man prone to such hateful outbursts against people. He clearly needs to go to St. Lake City and meet with the hierarchy of the Mormon Church and seek forgiveness. He needs to take tolerance classes immediately if not sooner.

Actually I have the best solution – to pay for his sins and to learn more about the Mormon faith Al Sharpton should accompany a pair of young men on a multi-year Mormon missionary journey overseas. It is the least he can do.
