Well, sort of.

Yes, there are Christian musicians in New England. But not many… and I don’t know if I’m a Christian musician necessarily. But I am definitely a Christian and a musician… if that makes sense.

My name is John Emery, and I’m a singer/songwriter that grew up in a small town north of Boston. I was raised in a family that lived and breathed Beatles, having a father that plays guitar and an uncle that plays drums. Music is a way that we communicate and share with one another. We hold music festivals at our summer house in Maine, and we encourage everyone to join in, either as a musician or a wine-drinking back-up singer.

I wasn’t raised in a Christian household, and I think that’s one of the reasons I was actually intrigued by Jesus when I first heard of Him. One of the most popular things in New England is seeking after the religion that your parents don’t believe in.

I went to school for Graphic Design, and now work for Harbor of Hope Christian Church. I do all of the visual communications there, I write a blog called Jesus Loves Design, help with the youth ministry, as well as helping to lead worship on Sunday mornings. Which leads me to why I’m here…

"And somebody buy John a pair of shoes, too..." -MPT

I want to record an EP of the music I’ve been writing since I got married this past summer. Songs about trying to live within the tension of pursuing Jesus while being surrounded by thousands of the smartest atheists in the world. I want to share these songs with all of the skeptics out there, to at least challenge them with the things that might just create some change.

I thought You loved Your people, Like You loved Your Son, But we’re down here, With brand new wars begun…”

I want to ask the questions that people are scared to ask. I want to help spread hope and optimism in a world of cynics and scientists.

BUT… I don’t have nearly enough money… (remember I mentioned that I work at a church? Yeah… AND recently married?!)

So I need your help, and I’m grateful for Matthew allowing me to share some of my story here. I don’t know how many of you have heard of Kickstarter, but it’s an amazing site that helps people raise funds for their creative projects. If the money isn’t raised by the end of the campaign, no one is charged a penny. It’s the epitome of a win-win situation.

I would be so grateful for any of you to visit my Kickstarter page and considering to help fund the project. I’ve got just under 3 weeks to raise $2000, so every dollar helps. There are some fun “rewards” for the people that help. $5 will get you a digital version of the EP, and $10 will get your face on the front of it!

Again, I love you guys and appreciate your help. I can’t do this without generous people like you.

Here’s John singing an ‘unplugged’ version of his song Kneel Before His Light.

Please consider helping my friend! He’s a good guy with a good heart…
