Haha that’s actually a picture I took! They sell that stuff at Cracker Barrel… I tweeted it back in November. Glad it’s making its way around the Internet!

I don’t think so. While we may not like their music, the Gaithers have written more songs than you or I ever will–hundreds and hundreds. Do I like them all? No. But they are definitely artists worthy of your respect.

Thanks for that statement, Matt. Man years ago, I was not sure I wanted to have kids. I started praying about it. One morning, we sang “Because He Lives” in church, and there’s a line about holding a new baby. It seemed like a gentle nudge from God. A few other things like this happened, and I told my wife I was ready to be a dad. Now, 9 yrs into dadhood, I can’t imagine I ever wasn’t sure about this.

Here’s where the story gets good (not to mention relevant to this post): A few yrs ago, I brought my then-3-yr-old daughter into a Mardel store to pick something up. It happened that Gloria Gaither was there to do an appearance or book signing. She started talking to my daughter, telling her she was pretty, etc. I smiled, didn’t say much, then we left.

An hour later, I met with some friends, told them who I had run into at the store. One of them said “You know, she wrote that song, “Because He Lives”.” I wanted to kick myself, because I had had a chance to personally thank someone who had been used by God to impact me in a very meaningful way, and I didn’t realize it.

Yes, the Gaithers are artists, making their impact on the world, in a great way.

i wouldn’t say with such authority that they have written more songs that i ever will… i mean, i write songs all the time, ditties like “ouch! ouch! i stubbed my toe-eo-eo-eo! yes i did don’t you know-eo-eo-eo!” and this hit “gots to go, gots to go, yeah thats right, hurry up, because i gots to go”

I agree with the designation of artist. The Gaither’s are quality people and songwriters who have written hundreds of songs that are currently song. They have mentored many young Christian artists and are beloved by many. Maybe not your personal style but that doesn’t take away from their personal integrity and many gifts.

Are these as silly as Testamints? Probably.

That reminds me, there’s a new popsicle product from the Testamints people, with bible verses printed on the wooden stick. The name will be “Testicles”.

I don’t know if I want to be that girl, but you may want to consider rewording your description. (ie taking out the word teabagging) Just a thought.
