I guess I need to speak in tongues so I can express the right words to a person that has offended me or I don’t necessarily like? So does that mean God speaks through individuals to reconcile relationships with other people? I mean if I am a follower of Christ I don’t need a prophetic word to ask for forgiveness. Kinda seems like they are mis-using the importance of the Holy Spirit. The spirit of God within me compels me to forgive as Christ did. Anywho, I don’t like that the young lady said she didn’t understand it completely but something to the tune of resting. I am pretty sure that when God speaks you understand especially if tongues is being interpreted. Thoughts?

So are u against singing and speaking in tongues? Or are you saying that you think that they misused it here? I haven’t got to watch but a minute of the video so I was curious.

I figured this had to be Bethel Church in Redding, California.
Is that how Kim Walker learned?

This is just…weird.

You can’t “learn” to speak in Tongues, you receive it as the Holy Ghost gives the utterance.

Haha. I come from a Pentecostal church and our joke about people who use the concept of speaking in tongues the wrong way usually ends with a utterance of “iboughtachevybutishouldofboughtahyundai”

That’s Bethel School of Supernatural Worship. I was there. Yeah, I attended. Yeah, I sang. Sometimes I sang in tongues (Yeah, I believe that the gifts of the spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians are still vibrant and active today. I also believe that there are a right and wrong way to use them.)

You should understand that these are closed sessions, they aren’t recorded. This is some random attendee’s video. They aren’t teaching people to go randomly do this on the street. This is taught (in context) to supplement your prayer life and is modeled after Paul’s “praying in the spirit and with the understanding and singing in the spirit and with understanding.”

It is VERY weird when you view it in this context, but I imagine Jesus teaching his disciples how to pray would’ve been a little awkward to look at too if you viewed it as a random youtube clip.

Just a thought. I mean, I understand the stuff about people being freaked out if they don’t believe in speaking/singing in tongues, I just wanted to offer some perspective from the other side of the “disturbing” comments.

Not so sure that Jesus teaching his disciples to pray would have been very awkward. I think it went something like this: Jesus: “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ (Matt. 6:9-13)
