Iowa man’s dying wish…

Eric died in a plane accident in 2006. Shortly before he died he had a dream that led him to get up out of bed and record these video messages to his family…

The rest of the videos are here.

Wow. Just… wow.
I can’t imagine being in that position, but… wow.
As a husband and dad this cuts right to the heart.

Heavy. Thanks for this post. Making me think about what I’m doing now and what I want for my family if my time came sooner than I expected.

Reading the story on the Des Moines Register fully brought this story into focus for me. And led to the thought: do I live like knowing my life is short? No, I do not.

We’ve heard it a thousand times: live for the day, carpe diem, God doesn’t promise us tomorrow, and we don’t know when He’s coming. Fact is, we’re likely to die before Christ returns and each day we could say and do some of the things Eric did and planned.

Many of us, myself included, have thought about putting together a living will but keep putting it off. Would your spouse know how to take care of certain aspects of your life? What if you & your spouse died…what would happen to your child(ren)?

Eric’s message may have originally skeptically been recorded and intended for his family…but his boldness and passion should encourage us all to do more. And do it now!

Wow, what an amazing gift to leave your family. Plus, what an amazing gift it is to us- a reminder of the preciousness of each moment of life and the graciousness of God.

This was really emotional. I assume I’ll come under some attack for saying this, but I watched the video in it’s entirety but,…am I the only one that thinks he was a bit selfish in some of his requests? I don’t know, I just feel that was a lot of weight to put on some of his family. Just my opinion. I think the love he had for his family is amazing and strong and it’s really great that his family was able to see this.

Kristy, no attack from me. I see your point. I think his requests could be overwhelming to consider, especially during a time of grief.

That was just so amazing and unselfish of a thing for that guy to do. I mean, to make sure his family was okay, to tell them never hate God for what was going to happen, to have his wife remarry for her and her kids sake. I would like to think I’d do the same, but, I’m just not sure.

God did something really cool in that man’s life.

I think where Dave was the night of the dream is where God longs for us all to be: listening to Him. I don’t really believe we all need to sit down and make our videos tonight, but rather, to continually strive to be less of ourselves and more of God and His Spirit. Dave was in a good place even before he got to heaven, in my opinion. He was walking and trusting completely in God.
