Rivalry! (RJS)

posted by Jesus Creed Admin

Scot and Kris have been busy in South Africa – so no Weekly Meanderings …

Tom Smith has some reflections on Scot’s visit.

But I couldn’t pass on this and will take the opportunity to highlight a real sport for a change – with speed and action galore…

Our Town – (With a great skyline)

Chicago Blackhawks-Detroit Red Wings: Ancient rivalry renewed. I voted Wings in 4. What do you think?

And something to consider (especially if you play).

RJS,
Many thanks for this post … I realized this morning, when we were on our way to one of Stellenbosch’s famous wineries, that I had forgotten to post anything for today.
But, “real sport”? It’s like calling WWF a real sport! Ha.
Blessings to everyone from Stellenbosch South Africa.
Scot and Kris

Scot and Kris,
I love baseball – a good chance to relax in the sun … but come now, hockey=action. As I said…
Hope you are both having a great trip.

Off topic but meandering — what’s up with Beliefnet the past few days?
I can’t do anything here without having to skip through the “Your Dad has Alzheimer’s” advertisements. Used to be those ads would come up maybe 5% of the time, but the past 2 days or so it has been more like 50%. Anybody else noticing this sudden increase in advertising?
Add that to the hungry children ads and the Netflix popups, and this site starts to feel like late-night Cable TV.

RJS,
My respect for you has only increased – exponentially in fact – with your stated love of the greatest game on earth – hockey. However, originally being from Vancouver, and still being a die-hard Canucks fan, I still have some wounds to nurse here!

Ice hockey is wonderful to watch, rough sport that it is. And I love the Red Wings style. And root for them (the Columbus Blue Jackets aren’t really contenders much, are they? And what tradition do they have compared to the Red Wings and Hockeytown, anyhow?
The one thing I dislike in the NHL is the tradition of allowing players to slug it out with just major penalties, I think. That ought to be banned. But other than that, I think it’s a great sport.

Love the “real sport” of hockey. Love the history. Love the zeal it takes to play. Love playing (although I have only played roller, not ice, so purists can just throw up now) and watching. Love the smell of the ice and the sound of the boards. Originally from Colorado, so I have a deep detest for all things Wings. Even so, hockey talk is always welcome with this reader!

Our Common Prayerbook 30 - 3
Psalm 30 thanks God (vv. 1-3, 11-12) and exhorts others to thank God (vv. 4-5). Both emerge from the concrete reality of David's own experience. Here is what that experience looks like:Step one: David was set on high and was flourishing at the hand of God's bounty (v. 7a).Step two: David became too

Theology After Darwin 1 (RJS)
One of the more important and more difficult pieces of the puzzle as we feel our way forward at the interface of science and faith is the theological implications of discoveries in modern science. Almost Christian 4

Let's Get Neanderthal!
The Cave Man Diet, or Paleo Diet, is getting attention. (Nothing is said about Culver's at all.) The big omission, I have to admit, is that those folks were hunters -- using spears or smacking some rabbit upside the conk or grabbing a fish or two with their hands ... but that's what makes this diet
