Prayer for the Week

O God, the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us thy mercy; that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I am sure you explained this at some time in the past, but I’d be interested in knowing where you find these prayers for the week. Most of them sound very much like Anglican collects, and whether they are or not, a short source reference would be helpful.

I had the same question once. They come from the Book of Common Prayer. One online version is at:
“Click on Today’s Prayer Service” and then find the Collect for the Day.

that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal;
Universalis had this phrase worded like this:
“Make us make such use of the good things that pass away
that we may share, even now, in the good things that endure.”
I really liked that.
