Just in case you have not heard, Francis Beckwith, this year’s President of the Evangelical Theological Society, surely the largest academic association of evangelical scholars, recently converted to Catholicism — the faith of his childhood. Now here’s my question: Do you think a Roman Catholic can be an “evangelical” or an Evangelical a “Roman Catholic”? Are these two terms mutually exclusive? Is the word “evangelical” appropriate only for Protestants?
