Someone has asked me about good writers. In particular, I mentioned C.H. Dodd, and N.T. Wright, and also C.F.D. Moule. But this person has asked about similar examples in Old Testament studies, Church History, Theology, Sciences, Sociology … you understand. So, this post is a question: In your opinion, who are the best writers in other fields? (You need not mention someone from each field.) By “best writers” we mean who write with excellent prose, who keep your interest, who avoid getting bogged down in too much detail but still drive home profundity and insight, and who do not overdo it in footnotes, but at the end of the day you say “That is a great book and the prose makes it greater.”
