The Big Ten is the Big Zero this year. No one left in the NCAA — no one in the Sweet Sixteen. Dr. Naismith’s grave is rocking, I’ll tell ya. The major heartland of the USA teams are home for the summer. The inevitable conclusion: basketball on the East Coast, from Boston down to Tallahassee, is better than the Midwest, though there are a few rivals from the West coast.
I’m cheering now for Bradley and Gonzaga.
Basketball was a downer for me this weekend — when I had time to think about it. And worst of all is this: the Illinois High School AA championship game last night finished in overtime, and the score was 31-29. Good grief, my father coached in the 40s and 5os and they scored more points than that. Scores like that indicate that there’s something wrong.
