Friday Groove: John Legend & The Roots–Wake Up!

It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed an album as much as Wake Up! by John Legend & The Roots.  In this neo/old-school soul album, Legend solidifies himself as the Marvin Gaye/Bill Withers of our day.

Check out the title track, Wake Up!, featuring Common & Melanie Fiona:

I really like the album as well! Through and through it is good music. And I was actually thinking the same thing you were, John Legend fully grabs hold of his position as the Marvin Gaye of our time, which previously he was still leading in that area, but it surely was not definitive.
By the way… sorry I haven’t been through much since you’ve been on beliefnet, I’m try to be through a little more. Also, I am gonna be sitting under Carl Ellis for a class on Islam in December. Thought you might be interested. Peace bro.
