Anti-Rape Condom!

What’s your take on the new anti-rape, rape fighting condom with teeth?  (Read the CNN Story Here

Some say it’s a great idea, other’s think it will make a bad situation worse…

This presupposes that the rape situation is one-on-one. A lot of rapes are nothing of the sort: gang-rape is a sad reality. So, the condom catches the first rapist. Don’t you think his buddies are going to take it awfully personal?

Personally, I think it is a great idea! As a woman I know what it like to live in fear that this could happen. I also work with many traumatized women. The devastating effects of rape last a lifetime. Self-esteem, identity, marriages all suffer dramatically after a rape. One downside, a malicious woman can entrap a man into thinking he is having consensual sex with the device out of anger or revenge. I still think the benefits outweigh the risk of this. Typically malicious women have been raped in the past and as a result have hyper-sexuality and unresolved anger.

Just read a few of the literally thousands of comments about this device on the actual CNN site. Pretty scary stuff… It forces one to realize that there are real bad guys out there. IMHO this could be one tool to provide some small level of equalization.
