Do people really worship in worship services?  I remember reading about a poll that was taken of people after attending a worship service and what they found is that if the music portion of the service lasted longer than twenty minutes then there was a greater likelihood that a person felt like they had worshiped.

Is it that simple?

I guess it all depends on your definition of worship.

There are two main words translated as "worship" in our scriptures.  Those words are literally, "to bow down" and "to serve."

Satan understands this!  When Jesus was tempted by the evil one in the desert, satan made a very specific request.

"Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.  ‘All this I will give you,’ he said, ‘if you will bow down and worship (to serve) me."  Mt. 4.8-9

If this is worship, than what is a worship service?  What is the purpose of all the music, announcements and preaching?  Could it be that all we are doing is ringing a bell?
