If you love the Hammond B-3 organ then you must hear Brother Jack McDuff.  He is one of the most obvious links between jazz and the church.  Drawing upon the soul of the saints and one of the halmark instruments of the traditional black church, he back one of the innovators of Soul Jazz.

McDuff was known for his seemingly simple yet extremely complicated style and also for hiring a young unknown George Bensen as his guitarist.

Hammond_2Soul Jazz is a style of jazz that drew heavily upon the blues and gospel.  Whenever you hear him play it immediately takes you to church.  So if your yearning for some old school organ get some Mcduff and let it lift you.
