Meditation on the Moon (Tarot Card)

posted by Aliza Einhorn

"full moon in aquarius" And now we turn to the Moon.

I remember in the first Tarot class that I taught, we had a long long discussion about the Moon. The class was all women I think, women mostly younger than me, and many of them didn’t hold the “traditional” Tarot hesitations about the Moon card — confusion, illusion, delusion, worries.

Instead, they were plugging into Moon cycles, rhythms of life, feminine rhythms, magic, imagination, poetry, incantation. Looking to the Moon for guidance. Courageous women.

(And since I have your attention, I want to tell you that my next on-line class will be a Tarot class! and if this interests you, please click on the link below (to my email) for details. I’m in the planning stages now but by late August or early September we’ll be up and running.)

But back to the Moon. Some of the time, yes, when I see this card in readings there is self-deception afoot — either yours or theirs. And then other times, yes, this card is asking you to tune in, to go above your paranoia or your worry, to the deeper insight. Anxiety is never the last word, you know?

The Moon can be crazy thoughts, crazy visions, crazy wisdom — what OTHERS think is crazy, but to you it’s nectar. It’s truth.

The Moon is also that shadowy half-awake half-asleep dreamtime 2 a.m. feeling. Not certain of what’s real. Is that a ghost cat at the door? Or just your tshirt hanging on the doorknob? And maybe you want to find out. And maybe you don’t. The feeling is unsettling.

Now if you don’t vibe with the more spooky Moon interpretations, please know that your instincts matter. That’s one of the things the Moon teaches us! To tune in and listen.

More Moon Words and Phrases:

-having a facade or letting go of a facade
-trust yourself, you’re heading in the right direction
-trust the Divine, angels, your guides
-psychic power, for good or ill
-Guidance
-taking a spiritual voyage
-pay attention to your dreams
-change
-forget about logic-mind
-female relatives (or friends or partners) reaching out to you (those who have passed on)
-time for you to express/experience mothering energy in your waking life too
-entering a new phase but not sure what it is yet
-you can’t attack or solve this problem head on. Sleep on it.

What do you see when you see the Moon?

The interesting thing, that card has come up more times when I was completely unaware of any deception at all only to find out shortly afterward, plenty of it. :(

Today's Tarot: Six of Pentacles!
I like shuffling the Tarot Illuminati because it is so thick and hard to shuffle, and we see the Six of Pentacles this morning, one of those complex cards according to Rachel Pollack (who I love love love love). But even with my glasses, which I need to read, I get a bit overwhelmed by the detail

Today's Tarot: Knight of Swords (And the Full Moon in Virgo)
It's windy. He's rushing. He's rushing. It's windy. Even the clouds are edgy, jagged edges. Horse in a hurry, aggressive sword, tilted. Trees tilted. It's all a bit… skewed for the Knight of Swords.

Today's Tarot: The Hanged Man
Are you or are you not a sacrifice? I just drew the Hanged Man for someone and went to Google some images for her and saw a Charlie Brown Hanged Man and he looked so damn unhappy but the message I was delivering to her was not an unhappy one but "don't struggle against the ropes" which reminded o

Today's Tarot: The Tower!
The Tower isn't always bad. I used to think the Tower was always bad. I would often see it for BAD -- for evictions and my best friend's cancer and another eviction and BAD. But when I saw it today for a client who I've worked with quite a bit over the years, I KNEW it was not bad. I knew.  See,
