12335927_10153414386804858_1439684771_nTwo years ago, Safyre Terry lost her father and three younger siblings after they were killed in a fire caused by arson. Safyre was found next to her father, who had used his body to shield her from the flames.

Still, Safyre suffered burns on over 75% of her body causing her to lose her right hand and left foot. Safyre has undergone at least a dozen surgeries, with many more in her future. Luckily, she has a very caring Aunt, Liz Dodler, to care and look after her.

The pair have a Christmas tree they put out every year that is used to hang Christmas cards. The tree holds up to 100 cards, but the Aunt told Safyre that she shouldn’t get too excited because they would probably only receive around 10.

The little girl kept insisting they would get enough to fill the tree, so Liz took to social media to request cards. With the help of some family friends, the post quickly went viral and Christmas cards have started coming in.

“It’s so overwhelming yet beautiful that people from all over come together to make a difference in her holiday,” Dodler wrote on her Facebook page. She noted all the terrible things happening in the world today, but the way people are rallying for Safyre is “renewing her faith in humanity.”

Dodler also noted how grateful she is to see Safyre smile and “glow”, after the tragedy she has been through.

Christmas cards for Safyre can be sent to: P.O. Box 6126, Schenectady, NY 12306, USA
