I have posted on some great new finds on just-released Christmas music already this season, but because I am a Christmas music junkie, I now need to add a few more must-listen-to Christmas songs to that list that have been release in the last few weeks.
So if you aren’t feeling quite in the spirit of the season just yet, maybe give these songs a try for a holiday lift. Some of them are even available for free!
Paul SImon, “Getting Ready for Christmas Day” : This is song is actually a preview of his new recording releasing in the springtime of 2011. It’s everything you’d want from a Paul SImon song: it’s folksy, it’s snappy, it’s socially relevant and you can download for free off of his website.
Coldplay, “Christmas Lights” : Coldplay released this melancholy, poignant new song, along with a beautiful video, and it is also available as a free download.
Mariah Carey, “Merry Christmas II You” : I loved Mariah’s first Christmas album – which was 16 years ago- and this one is certainly just as good but I especially like the jazzy “Oh Santa’ and the best version of “Here Comes Santa Claus” ever.
Various artists, “Happy Christmas Volume 5” : If you like your Christmas with a little edge, this is the compliation to get this season. Variousartists from Tooth N NAil Records give some creative covers tocontemporary Christmas classics by some alternative Christan groups like August Burns Red and Thousand Foot Crutch.
