I woke up this morning feeling nausea. My stomach felt like it was filled with water, even though I hadn’t drank any water since the night before. At several occasions, I felt the urge to throw up the contents in my tummy, but when I rushed to the toilet, nothing came out. I felt so weak and wanted to do nothing but sleep, yet the discomfort I was feeling prevented me from resting.

I was desperate, so I tried whatever I could think of and knew:

  • sucked on, chewed and swallowed a slice of ginger (yes, it can be very spicy, but I was prepared to do whatever it takes to get rid of the nausea feeling)
  • massage my upper abdomen (where the stomach is) with deep heat oil
  • nibble (not eat a lot) some dry cracker biscuit
  • used acupressure on my “Nei Guan” (PC6) acupoint (the acupoint is along a line three fingers down your wrist line; place your right index, middle and ring finger on and parallel to the wrist line of your left hand; the acupoint is along the edge of your index finger and between the two tendons along the middle of your forearm, specifically the tendon of the flexor carpi radialis muscle and the tendon of the palmaris longus muscle)
  • used acupressure on my “Zhong Wuan” (RN12) acupoint (halfway point between your xiphoid process and your belly button)

After all these efforts, I was comfortable enough to fall asleep. And after my rest, I felt much better.

So these are useful tips you might want to keep in mind, if ever you have to deal with nausea. Of course, if it is vomiting you’re dealing with, there may be more issues (e.g. dehydration) at play. The latter situations may warrant more medical attention.
