30 Day Gospel Soundcheck Christian Music Challenge

posted by Joanne Brokaw

Don’t you just love doing those “30 Day” challenges? Movies, music, all sorts of fun stuff. We thought it would be fun to do one here on the Gospel Soundcheck blog, but with one noteable difference: every 7 days, you get to sing!

That’s right! Once every 7 days there’s an INTERACTIVE CHALLENGE where you’re invited to videotape yourself singing the song you pick. Upload the video to your YouTube account and then post the link in the comment section on that day’s post. We’ll pick some of our favorite videos to feature on the blog and in the Beliefnet Entertainment newsletter. (If you’re camera shy, just post your answer the same way as always. But really, don’t you want to sing?)

If you’ve never done one of these, it’s really simple. Click the link to the day you’re answering, and leave a comment on that day’s post. (For example “Day 1: All time favorite Christian song or hymn – Amazing Grace”) Start anytime with Day 1 and work through the 30 days. Remember that links to video answers for the interactive challenges have to be posted on that day to possibly be featured on the blog or in the newsletter.

Don’t worry if you’re starting the challenge days or weeks after everyone else. It’s an ongoing thing – that’s what makes it fun!

Ready? Let’s play!

1. Tie: “I’m Alive” (Pivitplex), “Secret Ambition” (MWS), “Red Letters” (dcT)
2. “Somewhere Down The Road” (AG)
3. Supernatural (dcT)
4. geesh…pass
5. anything by Carman
6. “End of the Line” (Pivitplex)
7. “This little light of mine…”
8. Kevin Max Smith has the most talented male voice in Christian music history…sadly, I’m not very familiar w/ his solo stuff
9. don’t really know…no female voices really stick out – sorry Amy
10. …I need a hymnal for reference
11. Casting Crowns
12. Haven’t really listened to a lot of Christian music lately to know…but I’ll say Rapture Ruckus b/c they’ll melt your face off if you let them
13. ?
14. I don’t know…like 50% of them that have ever been recorded probably…(remember, it’s Christian music – and I don’t sing)
15. “Lord Let Your Glory Fall” (as recorded by By The Tree)
16. “Brass Monkey” (Beastie Boys)
17. 99.9% of the time not a Christian song
18. Some down-home hokey-pokey joint out of the songbook in my wife’s General Baptist church
19. Too many to start naming…
20. “Replace Me” (Family Force 5 – as sung every morning as a reminder)
21. …gay…
22. Not really sure…
23. I showed my dad that in Bobby Brown’s debut solo album he gave credit to God in the liner notes. Seriously doubt that my dad really cared or made him think more of Bobby. But that was a HOT record…”My Prerogative,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Roni,” “Every Little Step”…where’s my tape deck…?
24. I gave up on Christian radio a long…long…time ago. But I bet “Awesome God” is still in heavy rotation, as well as the other usual suspects…
25. Where to begin…”I Can Sing of Your Love Forever,” “Shout To The Lord,” “God of Wonders,” …this is really giving me a headache…
26. “Everything You Want” (Vertical Horizon)
27. When I was touring w/ mega-band Tinman Jones we opened up for T-Bone one night and he put on the most God-awful show I have ever seen in my entire life…
28. Can’t.
29. Again, need my hymnal – there’s one I’m trying to recall from the United Methodist Hymnal that kind-of has a sea faring-type melody line that would sound good as a Coldplay tune or something…
30. “F*** You” (Cee Lo Green) LOL!!! j/k…but I figured that “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel or something like that would be too much of a “Sunday School answer!”
