Last night the Top 12 contestants were named for season 9 of American Idol, and let’s face it: it was a shocker.
You can read the play by play from my live blog post, but in short, Lilly Scott was sent home last night, as was Alex Lambert, Todrick Hall, and Katelyn Epperly.

Most viewers expected Todrick to go; last night his goodbye performance was great, but overall he’s failed to really live up to Idol expectations. He’s talented, and he’ll be fine, but this venue really wasn’t for him.

Katelyn was no surprise either; she didn’t seem like she was in it to win it this week.
And I guess some could argue Alex Lambert was in over his head, but frankly he was the one reason this season was going to be fun; watching this nervous, young kid blossom before our eyes.
But Lilly Scott? LILLY? When Ryan called her down with Katie Stevens to announce which was going home, even Lilly was shocked by the result.
Viewers were in shock, too, with many of them claiming that there really isn’t any reason to continue watching. Predictions are that Crystal will win, although I think a Lee/Crystal/Big Mike final three is possible, with the winner up for grabs. But at this point, who knows what’s going to happen?
So let me ask you: is there anyone on the show this season that gets you excited? Any reason to keep watching? Any potential for surprises?
And what about Tim Urban? Even he was stunned that he was through to the Top 12. He definitely pulled out a great performance this week and he may have more in him than he’s been given credit for. Are you interested in seeing what else this indie Christian artist has to offer?
Who would YOU have sent home last night? Me? I would have sent home Aaron Kelly or Andrew Garcia instead of Alex Lambert.
