This week the remaining 8 girls and 8 guys performed, and tonight we’ll find out which of them make American Idol’s season 9 Top 12.
My predictions for the 6 girls going through:
1. Crystal Bowersox
2. Lilly Scott
3. Siobhan Mangus
4. Katie Stevens
5. Didi Benami
6. Lacey Brown
My predictions for the 6 guys going through:
1. Lee Dewyze
2. Tim Urban
3. Alex Lambert
4. Mike Lynche
5. Andrew Garcia
6. Casey James
We’ll find out next if I’m right!
Here we go! Ryan says we could be in for a surprise or two; does he know who’s going home? I don’t know if I’ll be surprised by any result tonight. Unless Crystal or Lee are going home. That would be a surprise.

Tonight we get to see Scott MacIntyre and Matt Giraud perform; cool!
The group is performing Michael Buble’s “Haven’t Met You Yet,” which we know from Brittany’s insider post last week that they’re lip synching. Or at least singing to a backing track. But it sounds good!
Todrick really needs to get rid of those stupid fingerless gloves. Anyway, after the break someone is going home. I think Alex Lambert should sing “Waiting on A Friend”. I just like that song. Ooh, or strip down “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” with his guitar. Then again, my knowledge of Rolling Stones songs is VERY limited.
Breaking news: the first theme week of the season will be from The Rolling Stones. Interesting choice.
Ryan shows us the 12 empty stools we’ll be filling tonight. Ladies first. He calls Didi Benami down to the stage first. Randy tells her as they move forward consistency will be key. And we’ve seated our first Top 12 contestant. No surprise.

Siobhan Magnus is up next, and she says she’s very comfortable on stage. Ellen says she’d like to see her continue to do what she’s doing. She’s the next contestant through.
Ryan calls Paige Miles and Katelyn Epperly to the center stage and tells them one is going through and one is going home. I would have picked both of them to go home, but if only one is going home, I think it’s Katelyn. Ryan asks Simon which contestant has the most potential; he says Paige. And Paige is going through. Not surprised.
Katelyn’s singing her “swan song” and frankly she should have done the song sans keyboard on Tuesday; she looks a lot more lively and less cheesy.
So if Paige is through, which other girl is going home? My David says Katie Stevens. Could be!
Now for some guys’s results. Ryan calls Todrick Hall, Tim Urban, Lee Dewyze and Casey James down to the center stage. One of these guys is going home. Ryan recaps each of their journeys so far.
Casey is safe. TIm is safe, and he looks like he can’t believe it himself. So it’s Todrick or Lee. Ryan asks if both deserve a spot in the Top 12, and Randy says yeah, but Lee has been consistant and deserves to be there. And Todrick is going home. No surprise. He seemed like he was expecting it, and he’s very gracious as he sings his swan song.
So can someone explain to me why the contestants getting voted off sing their goodbye song 100 times better than they did on their performance night? This might be the first time I’m actually enjoying Todrick singing. Maybe because it’s not contrived. Someone will have him working – dancing, on stage, singing, whatever. He has personality, he’s likeable, and he does have a good voice. Idol just wasn’t his thing. He’s going to be just fine.
So the six on the stools get a front row seat to hear Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre – both on piano! Remember, Matt Giraud was a ‘dueling pianist.” They’re performing Billy Joel’s “Tell her About It.” This is so fun. Two Christian music artists, clearly friends, just having a blast on stage. And good grief, don’t you just love Matt Giraud? And isn’t Scott McIntyre just the sweetest thing ever? Let’s have more of that clean, fun stuff and no Flo Rida rap crap this season.
Scott MacIntyre has a new album out, “Heartstrings.” And Matt Giraud had a #1 single with Anna Wilson, and he’s recording for an EP.
And we’re back to find out who the last 6 contestants make it to the To 12.
Ryan calls Crystal Bowersox and he’s through. No surprise.
Michael Lynche is up next. Ryan reminds us that Kara cried last night; she says she felt his story and it touched her. Ryan asks him if he thinks he can fit on one stool; he’s through.
Lacey Brown is next; she’s so cute. Ryan asks her if she knows who she is as an artist, she says she is. Although she doesn’t really articulate it well. Ryan calls her down, and she’s through. That one makes me very happy.
Aaron Kelly is up next and he’s through. Uh oh. That leaves Alex Lambetrt and Andrew Garcia seated, so one if going home. Wow. I hope it’s Andrew. I’m sorry, but I really want Alex to move on. Ryan calls them down to the stage and recaps their journey. Ryan asks Simon if he thinks Andrew peaked too soon, and he thinks maybe yes, but he’s still a very talented singer. And the last spot goes to … Andrew. Rats. RATS! I’m sooo bummed about this one.
Alex is very emotional; he says he wishes he wasn’t so nervous on stage because there are a lot he can do that America didn’t see. Ellen tells him that he’s so good, and he shouldn’t stop believing in himself.
OK, I said I wouldn’t be surprised tonight, but I am. I can’t believe Alex got voted off. Somebody sign this kid, get him a mentor, and let him sing.
After the break, the contestants are still having a hug fest and Alex is crying, and Ryan says during the break you could have heard a pin drop and called it one of the most emotional moments so far.
That least Katie Stevens and Lilly Scott. One of them is going home. The natural choice to go is Katie, but who knows what’s going to happen. Lilly seems a bit confident as she stands there, but when Ryan says the final seat goes to Katie, she looks like she had the wind knocked out of her. She says a lot of incredible talent is going home tonight and she’s not sure what America wants to hear. But she’ll be fine, too.
You gotta wonder: is VoteForTheWorst.com (VFTW) really is skewing the results? I mean, we’ve expected Paige to go home, and if it came to Tim or Alex, I would have expected Tim to go. But Tim and Paige were this week’s VFTW pet projects and they’re both in the Top 12.
Well, I have to confess that I’m less than thrilled with the results. I was really, really rooting for Alex to fly under the radar and blossom into the Top 5. And no offense to Paige, but she stays and Lilly goes? What a weird, weird season.
But what do you think? Happy with these results?
