posted by Joanne Brokaw

I just heard this news today and had to pass it along: Ron McClelland, bassist for Gotee artist Storyside: B, died on Sunday while on a cruise with listeners of Jacksonville radio station 88.1 The Promise. In addition to his work with the band, McClelland was a guest on-air personality for the station. The clip from First Coast News is above. There might be an ad first; sorry, I don’t have any control over that. The first of two memorial services was held today in Jacksonville. The second will be held on Saturday and like the first is open to the public:Saturday, January 24, 2009 @10:00amDetroit World Outreach Christian Center Church (DWO)23800 W. However, the ship’s doctor believes McClelland may have unknowingly suffered from cardiomyopathy.”Storyside: B was started in 2003 in St. Augustine, Florida. McClelland joined the band in 2004. McClelland leaves behind his wife, Rebecca. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to a fund to support McClelland’s family. The band says on their MySpace:

I knew the band personally, and was shattered to learn what had happened to Ron. Preston, Lucio, and Jordan were all like brother to McClelland, and the band will never be the same! I was so ahocked, and still am.
He will never be forgotten!

I’m from N. Little Rock, AR… My heart goes out to Rebeca and her family/friends. My family was on the cruise when this happen… We stayed across the hall from Ron and Rebeca.. Very nice young couple R184 – R142 . My son and nephew played ball with this young man that day. He told my nephew he wld show him some more moves… This really is sad and you must be ready when it is your time… I have expressed to the boys that he was a man of GOD.. May the lord continue to bless Rebeca and her family.

I was playing basketball with Ron when it happened. I was holding his hand through it all. He was a good man and always smiling for the ten minutes I knew him. My prayers are with you Rebecca. I’m so sorry.
