Voice of the Day: Saint Elizabeth the New Martyr

posted by gp_editor

It is easier for a feeble straw to resist a mighty fire than for the nature of sin to resist the power of love. We must cultivate this love in our souls, that we may take our place with all the saints, for they were all-pleasing unto God through their love for their neighbor.

I was so uplifted by these words today. After reading of the President’s commutation of “Scooter” Libby’s sentence, and the backlash against Mr. Laitori for his stand against the Iraq War, I found myself feeling discouraged, taking measure of the seeming futility of standing up to hatred, greed, and selfishness in our world…St. Elizabeth reminded me that the path of God’s love is never easy, but is also never without hope.
God’s blseeings to all!

There is a tendency for even the best of us to lust for revenge over some wrong we perceive. But the man has been convicted, and the point has been made. Do we really have to insist that it be underlined with the man’s blood? What would Jesus do?

Verse of the Day: 'peace to the far and the near'
I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will lead them and repay them with comfort, creating for their mourners the fruit of the lips. Peace, peace, to the far and the near, says the Lord; and I will heal them. But the wicked are like the tossing sea that cannot keep still; its waters toss u
