I think the Hebrew translation you’re using is a bit misleading. A more proper translation of the world “liberally” is “freely.”

RevDr. Is your interpretation in the letter of the law or the spirit of the law? Is ‘liberal’ a dirty word in your vocabulary?

According to Webster: Liberal, definition 2: Generous, openhanded; given or provided in an openhanded or generous way; ample, full. In other words, to give liberally is to give generously. RevDr: why is this translation misleading? And why would “freely” be a more “proper” rendition? Later,

Also according to Webster’s synonyms: liberal, generous, bountiful, munificent. BTW, My translation of the Holy Scriptures from the Jewish Publication Society reads, “Give to him *readily* and have no regrets when you do so…” What’s the point anyway Rev?

If there was no undercurrent to the use of a verse that utilizes the term liberally, then he has no point. If there was, then he does.

Isaiah 13: 15 Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. 16 Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered, and their wives ravished.Ezekiel 4: 12 And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight. 13 And the Lord said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread… Deuteronomy 21: 18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, 19 then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out 20 unto the elders of his city, and 21 all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die.

Ahh, so now Progressives are selling the Prosperity Gospel. The more yLiberals and Progressives covet and snake their way through the Christian Church, I knew it wouldn’t take long for the cash cow to be held aloft. I can’t wait to here what version of Name It and Claim It, Progressives come up with. Jim Wallis and Benny Hinn. Yuck.

Augustine, “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,(an Aramaic term of contempt)’ is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. Matthew 5:21-22You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Romans 2:1So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 1 Corinthians 10:12For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. James 2:10If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 1:8-10Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him. 1 John 9-11Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:11-12

When I tell people that I work on immigration reform, they usually laugh or say, "way to pick an easy topic." Everyday it feels like there is more fear, more hate.
