Back in October, we were shocked and dismayed to learn that three people attending a “Spiritual Warrior” event at the Angel Valley Retreat Center near Sedona, Arizona died after a sweat lodge ceremony.

Today, news came down that James Arthur Ray, the self-help guru who led the retreat–and allegedly “urged participants to push past their physical weaknesses and chided those who wanted to leave” the ceremony–was charged with three counts of manslaughter.

Here’s the whole news story about the charges and the tragedy.

And here’s an interview we published with background on sweat lodges and how to choose safe, qualified leaders and teachers.

I’m wondering how the news of the charges strikes you – when you hear news like this, do you get a zing of “justice has been done” satisfaction?  Or is there no rescue from the unspeakable and utterly avoidable tragedy that happened in the first place?
