My friend went camping alone yesterday. She and a 50 lb backpack hit the trail for the night so she could find some peace. I’m about to jump in the shower, have a quick coffee with Martin, then spend the day curled up on a couch reading, writing and ruminating at Holy Cross Monastery-mostly in silence and alone, except for a scheduled conversation with my friend and guide Brother Bernard.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love being with people. It is part of the reason that I do most of my writing and studying in cafes and coffee shops. And yet, there is something about taking time away from the grind to ask, listen and hopefully gain a little perspective that can be incredibly rejuvenating.
So how do you refresh and renew? Do you have a place you go or a routine you follow to get away from it all?
