There’s a new study out from University of Maryland researcher Amy L. Anderson, PhD, and colleagues that looked at the food consumption patterns of 2,582 adults aged 70 to 79.   The study looked at people’s diets, and discovered that there are six “food” groups: healthy-foods, high-fat dairy, meat-fried-and alcohol, breakfast cereals, and refined grains.  Which group or groups do you fall into?

One group, who ate high-fat dairy products and lots of sweets and deserts were most likely to be obese and die younger.  Those in the healthy-foods group were less likely to be obese and enjoyed higher longevity.

Guess which groups got the most calories from their foods?  Of course, it was the sweets and desserts, high-fat dairy, refined grains, and breakfast foods groups.

So what foods were in the healthy foods group?  We already know, it was low-fat dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and low consumption of meats, fried foods, sweets, high-energy drinks, and added fat.

Again, another study shows that eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat, sweets and shall I say – carbohydrates keeps you thinner and helps you live longer.
