The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) panel had recommended approval for a “new” diet drug, Contrave. It’s actually not new — it is a combination of older drugs, and the manufacturer thinks it will help people struggling with weight loss.

Bupropion is one of the two drugs, an antidepressant. The thinking is that people who are overweight may be depressed, or at least need emotional uplifting. Naltrexone, is used for addiction treatment.

Who knows, perhaps it will work. Both have been used individually for the last 20 years. Together, they may help with what I feel are side effects of weight problems and eating disorders. Or at least get someone jump started.
