Trying to lose weight, but the pounds are not dropping?  Dieting to get rid of some excess fat, but despite your great efforts, you are not losing weight?  Don’t worry, help is here.  Try my tips for weight loss plateaus below.  (I’m in a rhyming mood this morning!)

— Take a close look at the amount of food you’re eating.  Are you simply eating too much again?  Consult my book, The Joy of Weight Loss, for suggestions.  Also, try the USDA Food Guide at www.mypyramid.gov

— Take a look at the types of food you’re eating.  Are you mostly eating high calorie foods, like meats, dairy, and carbohydrates?

— Write a log of all that you are putting in your mouth.  Log the day, time, type of food, amount and your feelings associated with the food, before and after you eat.

— Are you getting some physical recreation in everyday?  We need to burn off the calories, and we do that by getting up and moving!

— Are you stressed-out?  Are you having a difficult time, and using food to comfort yourself?  If so, talk about it with friends and family.  Meditate for more peace in your life.

— Are you spiritually connected?  Are you praying regularly, asking God or your Higher Power for help?

— Be honest: how is the weight loss program really going?  Did you “stay on the diet” only to greatly overeat (or binge, or compulsively overeat) over the weekend?

These are all ideas that you might want to try.  The key is to TRY.  Don’t give up.  Give away – give the pounds away in a healthy way.

If these tips are not working in a week’s time, check with your doctor.  Most importantly, check with your physician annually, and especially before you begin a weight loss and exercise program for yourself.
