I’ve written about the problem of eating large amounts of food, especially sugar and carbohydrates many times in this column, but today I saw an article on an eating disorder that mixes sleepwalking with overeating.  You may want to take a look, it’s by Randi Hutter Epstein in the New York Times.

The phenomena is a little scary: people wake up to find wrappers, crumbs, dirty plates and food scraps in all kinds of places — yet do not remember anything.  Some even get hurt doing it, by eating toxic substances, getting cut, or crashing into doors and walls.

Is this a sleep disorder, or eating disorder, or a sign of mental or physical illness?  Scientists and physicians aren’t sure.

Here is a link to a previous posting of mine that addresses some recipes to curb nighttime eating patterns.  It also lists other posts on the subject, but none of them about sleepwalking and nighttime eating, per se.

Has this happened to you?  Do you eat large amounts of food without knowing it? Please join the group conversation and post a comment below.
