I want to encourage you to begin a regular “physical re-creation” schedule.  The hardest part is getting going.  Hopefully, you’ve had a recent and complete checkup with your medical doctor, before beginning any activity or making changes to your diet or routines.

That said, I recommend you start by making it a priority to move your body just 10 minutes a day.  Something easy and enjoyable that really gets your body moving is the deal.  You can do stretches to soft music.  Perhaps you enjoy gentle yoga postures.  A walk outside around the neighborhood is lovely; that’s what I did to begin my regular program over 16 years ago.

To overcome the “getting going,” set up a schedule, preferably in the morning.  As soon as possible after you’ve awakened, thanked God and put your clothes on – don’t even think about it – start moving!  Grab your coat and shoes and head outside for a vigorous enjoyable walk.  Breathe deeply as you look around, seeing trees and flowers, birds, people’s houses and nice architecture, and even say hello to some neighbors.  Once you’ve started, it feels so good you’ll want to keep moving.

Honestly, when I was over 300 pounds it wasn’t so easy to walk 10 minutes a day.  I understand that using your body may be quite difficult, or even a real challenge to you right now, initially.  That’s OK; you’re going to be fine.  Just move, nice and easy, but just move a little.  If you’re extremely overweight, then perhaps some nice stretches in a chair is the perfect thing for you today, and this week.  Only you and your physician know best.

Step by step, day by day, moving will become a part of you and you can then add some time to your daily movement.  But for now, today, just 10 minutes.
