raising awareness of mental health events

I think it’s awesome when a school or business creates a mental health awareness campaign. Campaigns can be simple like doing walks or pledging sales from a hockey game for mental health research. Campaigns don’t need to be complex or take a lot of time, but they really help break stigma. So here are two events you can participate in to raise awareness of mental health issues.

United States :

The National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) holds a NAMIWalks each year to raise money and awareness of mental health issues. This year NAMIWalks celebrates its 13th Anniversary. Registration is free and online. You can organize a group to join the walk or participate as an individual. You get a webpage that you can personalize with photos, videos and stories and will be active for 60 days after a walk. To find out when a NamiWalk is happening in your area visit http://namiwalks.org/content/home

Canada :

The Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) is currently accepting nominations for the 2015 Champions of Mental Health awards. Each year, CAMIMH seeks nominations from the public for individuals and organizations that deserve to be recognized for their efforts in advancing the mental health agenda in Canada. Nominations are free and online. The deadline is February 27, 2015. To nominate someone visit http://www.camimh.ca/champions-of-mental-health/nominate-a-champion/
