Buckeye blessings: new deacons in Ohio

A whopping 33 new permanent deacons — plus three transitional deacons — were ordained in Cincinnati last month, and this is the official class picture.

I wonder how many priestly vocations were diverted to this? I have no doubt that the permanent diaconate is a blessing to the Church, but you have to figure at least a handful of these guys would have been priests if this avenue wasn’t available to them.
[Rellis...I dunno about that. The two vocations are distinctly different. I don't know any deacons who chose the diaconate over the priesthood. Dcn. G.]

I agree with Dcn.G. While it is true that I discerned priesthood, I was called to the married life first, and the diaconate grew out of that. It is a distinct ministry from the priesthood and I have never second guessed my decision.
