And now, Lutheran abuse victims speak out

The sex abuse scandal in the Catholic world may be sending out ripples to other faiths, according to AFP:

Publicity around paedophilia in the Catholic Church has prompted victims of sexual abuse in Finland’s Evangelical Lutheran Church to speak out, the Finnish church says.

“Some of these cases are very old,” Martti Esko, director of family issues at the church council, told AFP, adding that cases had “emerged from different parts of the country.”

“Some of these have already expired legally, some are being investigated and for some there have been convictions. Clearly this issue has now emerged,” Esko said, but declined to speculate on the number of cases that had come out.

The church said in a statement issued on Monday that it had become aware of “some cases” of sexual child abuse since scandals involving paedophile priests began rattling Catholic Church communities across the western world.

Esko said the statement, which called for an end to the culture of silence that surrounds paedophilia and domestic violence, was released to encourage more open discussion and enable victims to speak out about abuse.
“Pastors are hardly involved in the (reported) cases (in Finland),” Esko said, adding that the church had since 2003 required criminal background checks on all staff working with children.

It’s horrible that children are sometimes abused by those we think should be above such evil. Still more horrible is the way it was deliberately hidden by those who should have stopped it. I am Catholic yet I think that any member of my clergy who was involved in this coverup should be tried, and if convicted should be defrocked and imprisoned. The Church should certainly be paying for counselling and reparations, but these huge judgements, like most lawsuits, seem to benefit lawyers more than the victims.

Many years ago I was abused by a protestant Pastor, and I am sure I am not the only one. I don’t think any denomination/religion is free of it.
At the same time as this was going on my brother was abusing me. To me it shows what a sinful world we live in. It didn’t do anything to ruin my relationship with Christ. In fact probably made it stronger.

There is over 150% more abuse in the public school system than in the churches. I am not condoning any of it in way shape , form or spin.
This is a liberal disease, a feel good of rights.
But the parents of these kids, also hold a responsibility, for trusting someone, who has placed themselves in a position of authority. In case no one hasn’t noticed, Those in authority have a great tendency to consider themselves gods, and untouchable.
I trust no one, see authority of any kind as questionable, they are human. powerful overwhelms powerless.,
If you touch one human, in a adverse way, then you should have all rights forever as a human immediately taken from you.
Because with a 1 millionth percentage you will do it again and aqain. And the more you do it the less satisfying it will be till you kill another human in your quest for satisfaction.

No religion is immune from those who preach the goodness of a religion while taking advantage of those youngest they serve. Makes it hard to believe the preaching, huh?

Sir, i have to confess, i attended private all-boys Jesuit High School, and i was slapped/touched on the butt, molested by a priest…
SORRY if i still feel and believe that pedophile priests/pastors are the worst hypocrites of all hypocrites, and i think they should be punished by G-d’s JUSTICE!
Finally, I believe that these sexual scandals are not about sexual orientation, it is about graver & deadlier sins of sexual DEVIANCY – we should hate them PEDOPHILE priests/pastors.
“they should be killed like the Old Testament G-d’s laws commanded, burn them like the cities Sodom & Gomorrah in the past.
by a Jewish ‘Nazi’ – watch Inglourious Basterds!!!”
